Dawg
Did you seruusly just throw out the racist card? Do you know what racist means? No where did he say anything about hatred for a race. He said he didnt want his kid to watch tv with Spanish speaking characters. No where was he racist at all and that comment is insane. Yep. I gotta agree with Ben here. Even though I don't agree with Wills take on the subject 100% (99.3547% to be exact).......there is nothing racist about it.
RangerClay
I learned how to count to 10 in spanish watching Sesame Street in the 70's. I turned out relatively ok. I also get annoyed with those shows.
PotashRLS
Much of this seems to stem from political correctness, and in my opinion pc is really hurting our country. Those looking in to AMERICA now would look at us as a bunch of pansies compared to our previous generations.

You are his parent, you are the one responsible for his raising. If he calls you mi pappi, you have failed to teach him, if he calls you daddy, you have taught him well, if he calls you Janice......I win. wtnhunt
I dont like it when people come into our country and we have to adapt to their ways not vice versa.... Actually gonna agree with you on that, but don't see banning a tv show in your home or allowing it making a difference. What will make a difference is getting some of these liberal lawmakers out of office. Much of this seems to stem from political correctness, and in my opinion pc is really hurting our country. Seems to go hand in hand.

The_Kat
The bottom line here is that Mason is your son. You can choose to raise him anyway you want, and there isn't one person who has a right to tell you your doing it wrong. Guess what....BET isn't allowed on in my house. Call it racist...doesn't matter one way or another. Your the man of the house....your rules .
Guest TennesseeTurkey
Well it never hurts to ask other member's opinions I bet 98% of them have kids themselves....
92xj
And I bet some dont even know if they have kids or not. But, I will say one dang thing. There is absolutely nothing racist in this thread. I still cant really believe that came out. It's like the stories you hear of the white and black kid that got in a fight at school over how they played at the football game and the parents say it was a hate crime because it was two kids of the opposite race when all it really was was two boys fighting about how one didnt block for the other or something stupid like that. The race card is so overplayed. I'm not racist, I hate everyone. You do things and believe things your way, I do and believe things my way. I will stand up for what I believe in. Dawg
Bottom line is......is it's not teaching the kid to be racist by not letting him watch certain cartoons. That's like saying every person who watches the Dukes of Hazard are toothless rednecks..............and that ain't true cause I only got 5 teeth missing.... And Will, don't sweat it. I've watched all sorts of TV & hung out with all sorts of people but the values I fall back on came from home. MY HOUSE. You put it out there (good or bad) and he'll pick up on it. If he picks up on something that you don't find appropriate, teach him how it's wrong. He's YOUR son, raise him as you please. From everything I know about you, you're a great guy & have Mason's best interests at heart. Whatever you do, I'll support you because I know you believe that is truly what's best for your son. In my opinion that makes you a great dad.
NS whitetail
All three of my kids have watched Dora and they all turned out relatively "normal". What do you think your 2 year old is going to take form these shows? Learning to speak Spanish is great, but just because someone watches these shows doesn't mean that they are going to automatically start thinking that our government should be giving illegals basic US citizen rights..... I concur  A lot worse stuff going on elsewhere - corruption, arguments, beer talk .....I'd rather let them watch Dora on TV than join Realtree forums. :D hahahaha ............... that's funny

redkneck
My kids watched it some when they were young. If you think your kids will learn jack-squat in spanish watching Dora, you are sorely mistaken. What do they have, maybe one or two words in an episode? Please. The whole idea behind Dora (IMHO) is to get white kids to tune in because somehow their moms thinks it is "educational" and the Hispanics tune in because they are for once included in a prime-time American cartoon. Its all about the $
