mike
My son decided he wanted an aquarium so we set one up for him last weekend and got the filters and everything going. Went out tonight and got him some fish. Some kind of shark, some wierd catfish and something that resembles a fat goldfish! LOL Anyone else here into fish? I thought it might be a cool thread to see some of your aquariums. I will try to get some pics of Austins later and get them posted too. Guest TennesseeTurkey
A shark, catfish and fat goldfish? Sounds like you bought 1 fish and 2 fish fillets...
NS whitetail
I used to have them a few years ago and have thought about getting set up again. Make sure you get a couple of those algae eaters as well to put in the tank, they help keep the tank clean. A friend of mine has a large tank and put a couple of small lobsters in it, he said it is pretty awesome to watch them shed and grow. HUNTINGMAN
We had one and gave it away a couple years ago,it was like 100gallons. Our fish kept dying and it took up to much room.

redkneck
They're great, but I got tired of the maintenance on my 55gal salt water tank. Beautiful fish, but they're expensive and the salt made a mess. Finally switched to freshwater and eventually got tired of that, so now it sits on the back porch. GWSmith
You can never go wrong over-filtering! I actually went by a ratio of 10times what the tank size required. They never got diseases and the water was always crystal clear. Only pelletized food and just enough for them to consume in 5 minutes completely also helps water clarity. If anyones had Lutino Oscars before the ratio for them is 10 times bigger tank than you think you need...LOL 1st tank had pool filter sand (20/30 silica) instead of gravel and live plants. When they get bigger they eat the plants and any other fish you had in there with them.
Jeramie
We use to have a 100-gallon tank. It got to be too much to clean so we downsized several years back. We now have a 30-gallon and have had it for probably 7 years or so. I also have a beta on my desk here at the office. His name is Ralph if you're curious. The canister filters are pretty expensive but man do they work. Do yourself a favor and invest in one. They last for many, many years and cut your work to 1/4. You'll likely find the run of the mill $.25 gold fish hold up better than the expensive fish. All of the Lion Heads, etc. are hard keepers and kill off pretty easy. However, standard goldfish last a lot longer. Just make sure you never use goldfish for bait and throw the rest in your tank. Two years ago I bought goldfish for catfishing. We had a handful of pretty ones left over. We tossed them in the tank and all of the fish were dead by the next day. Had to really scrub everything before we would add more fish. toddyboman
Yep we have one. We started with the basic cheap gold fish from wal-mart and with in a week or two they all died. So we cleaned the tank started all over. Round 2 of gold fish from an actually pet store died too. So for round 3 we went with guppies.......They last a little longer but those too died within the a month. FINALLY round 4 of fish we bought some neons. They have done great...... I hope the fish didn't die from severe dehydration. Symptoms: Fish lying on bottom of tank. Cure: Fill tank with water; replace fish.
