need2hunt
Tim I had a window a couple years ago to go hunt/film in Africa, unfortunately the window closed and it didn't work out. I don't know about what's been offered to you but I know that travel cost would fall back on us. Past that the outfitter had different "levels" of animals to hunt, I would have been allowed three animals in the medium level and was hoping for a zebra, black or blue wildebeast and wasn't sure on the third. My understanding is there are sometimes trophy fees, skinning and prep fees, and of course tips for guides, trackers, skinners, etc. and lastly crating and shipping fees. Basic hunt rules were if you drew blood the animal was considered taken. But like I said the trip never transpired, so that's all I can tell you, I'm sure talking with Leo would be the thing to do. I would have enjoyed going but it wasn't really on my to-do list either. Good luck with making your decision.
Leo
I'd do it! Oh wait, I've been blessed to do it twice. And without hesitation, if I could, I'd do it again! Ben has probably already sent you my cell phone number. If not just drop me a PM. I'll suggest a travel agent, what shots to get and meds you need to bring. Your whitetail archery rig is probably good for 90% of the animals over there. Shot placement does indeed need to be further forward than on whitetails. I think you should go over with Tim and show him how it's done Leo. :cowboy:

Team Realtree
Gary brings up the key points. The travel part is usually the low expense. It is the fees involved. I know some folks that paid more for the caping, and shipping of the their trophies then they did for the plane ticket and hunt fees. Just make sure you know what those fees are. stevebeilgard
tim. listen to gary & scott. those "little" extras can reach many thousands. you have a hundred questions to ask and get details on first. once you have all the information and costs, then you decide and not before. that said, it could be a great trip and experience. you just have to know what to expect. Tim Andrus
Well, my mind is just about made up . I dont think Ill go and ill explain... You see, Africa has never done it for me. I dont even watch the hunting shows that have it on it. And even though its a so called free hunt with extra/hidden costs which wouldnt matter to me if I had the desire. That the problem I have no interest in going there even if it was totally free. No if it was a trip to Russia for Brown bears, Yukon sheep etc Id be chomping at the bit, because those are dreams of mine. But to go just because its discounted or free doesent matter to me . Its like saying I won a trip to the dentist for free lol Hope you all understand, thanks for the thoughts and well wishes but im pretty sure Ill be not attending. Leo
Since your mind is only "just about made up" Read my article and maybe think about it a little more. http://www.huntingresource.com/resources/articles/hunting/20-spiral-horn-dreams-2010 You still might decide you don't want to go. But I think it's wise you make that decision with a little more information to think about. Edited January 15, 2011 by Leo
stevebeilgard
you're my kind of hunting guy, tim. nothing in africa interested me either and in the late '70's i passed up free hunting opportunities also. i did get to go on 8 (all paid) sheep hunts and took 4 sheep. i also got plenty of mountain goats, moose, caribou, wolves and all the other north american animals. the one i've never shot is, believe it or not, a nice whitetail. or any whitetail for that matter. how funny is that. my biggest regret was not pulling the trigger on two seperate years where i had a wolverine in my sights and elected to not pull the trigger. Rhino
Tim...it's all about what YOU want to do. Choosing where and what to hunt is a personal thing. To each his own. For some of us it's more about what time we have available to hunt the game we desire to hunt. There's some things I'd never take the time to hunt, even if it was free. Bear is one...just not my thing but I did try it once. Never again! Whatever you decide to do is fine by me and I'll sure understand. BTW...I'll be thinking about you while I'm in Nambia in August for my 1st African bowhunt.
