Turkeygirl
Went shopping with my mom today, dropped her off and went to a bow shop. Not the one I'm planning to get my new bow at but wanted to get a head start on things. Didn't have time to shoot any but I sure did get my hands on some bows. Also had the guy there check my DL because while I've shot at 26", that has always felt a little long to me and when I got my Hoyt, the guy at the shop never really measured, he kind of guessed:hammer2: Anyhow I'm more of a 25" DL:o So the bows I held: The new Hoyt Carbon bow - really nice feel but way to high of a price.... Held the Hoyt Rampage...felt heavy and I dunno that I like the design...just seemed kind of blocky. THEN I held some Mathews bows...uh oh.... Z7 extreme....very nice feel...nice grip...just felt nice to hold...So I'm thinking even the Z7 may be a winner. Is this what falling in love feels like, lol:o The Mathews bows made the Hoyts feel heavy to me... Held a Bowtech...nice but the grip felt weird to me...maybe just that bow.. Held a Mission Maniac...another nice bow, the Z7 is still my fav. so far. Of course got some other bow shops to visit and leave some time to shoot some bows. Guy at this shop told me the Mathews Passions is essentially a DXT. So that's it...for now. Got a Mathews, Mission, and Hoyt cataloges for my homework:)

ohiobow
please for your sake check out new breed archery. the owner is top notch he set one up himself sent it to my local dealer let me shoot and if i liked it i could buy it keep it 60 days and if i didn't like it take it back to the dealer for a full refund. i have a 25" draw also and have tried almost every short draw bow with the exception of matthews just because i don't like them. lol i have had an elite fire had a hump between the valley and th wall shoot a 330 grain arrow 245-255fps a browning micro adrenaline same arrow 220fps a browning illusion nice bow shoot 250's -260's a pse x-force sd (short draw) shoot in the high 260's-270's but aggresive draw a bowtech equalizer bulky shoot in the 250's-266 is as fast as i could get it with twisted strings and cables. all these were with the same grain arrow at 60 pounds then i got the nemesis smooth light no shock dead in the hand comes with either split or solid limbs your choice if you want more speed go with the split limbs if you want it to be more smooth but i think it is the smoothest bow i have shot then get the split limbs. i am also only shooting at 58 pounds instead of 60 like the others i went with the solid limbs had it set up and paper tuned within 20 minutes. then went and got the chrono.. same arrow as before shooting 308fps and with my easton lightspeed 3d arrows it shoots 313fps this is hands down the best short draw bow i have ever owned you will not be dissappointed like i said before do yourself a favor and check them out i got a samurai model nemesis all black the come with vaportrail strings and cables heres a link to their site http://www.newbreedarchery.com/ Edited January 14, 2011 by ohiobow
Crew999
I really think most bows nowadays are really great and will do the job well. I just bought the one that felt the best and that gave me confidence....it happened to be a Mathews and I have no regrets. On a side note, I love the looks of the carbon matrix. Ohiobucks
Buddy here at work bought a Z7 last summer, it is a sweet shooter. As far as weight goes, last years Z7 is 4.0lbs, 2011 Z7's are 3.98lbs, 2011 Hoyt Carbon Element is 3.6lbs, Hoyt CRX 32 is 3.95lbs, Rampage is a heavier bow at 4.20 lbs. All about the same in my book. It all comes down to how they feel and shoot to you. I've been hearing some pretty good things about PSE bows, might be worth a look if you're in the market.... huntnfish
Truly with the technology in bows today, I am not sure you could go wrong with any of them. Never shot a Matthews, just out of my price range(not going to spend $1000 for a bow) and not sure if they are all hype or the real deal. The people I know who have them say they like them but I also here the same from Martin owners.

Shaun_300
Forget the name brand and get the one that feels best for you and shoots best for you. Good luck with your choice Ruth!
Prairiepredator
All of those bows you looked at would be great bows, so I don't think you can go wrong!
dbHunterNY
The hoyts have been heavier or seem heavier due to the bridged riser design or how the feel while drawn. They are a solid bow and all the new ones I found shoot very nice. No vibration and no jump, but they are a bit on the slow side. Still waiting to shoot the Z7 mag. The Passion for a women's bow is pretty nice and up there performance wise, but you pay for it compared to other youth/women sized bows. The Bowtech Heartbreaker is a good one with a nice backwall and not pink. You're not into pink bows so the Z7 Extreme might be the one I'd say. The Mathews Z7's shoot well. the Extreme for me is too short ATA for my 29" draw. I've tried a lot so far and my hunt has come down to a Strothers SR-71 and Bowtech Destroyer 350. Other 2011's I have on deck to test out yet are an Elite Pulse, Strother SX-1, Bowtech Invasion CPX, and Mathews Z7 mag. All are in the next tier (340-347fps IBO and as slow as I want to go). dbHunterNY
Oh yea I don't know if you know this but Pete Crawford runs Elite Archery now and they're now out of Henrietta, NY. Not sure if the company is mfg the bows there or back in Washington state though. Maybe Tim or someone else knows. Something to think about when looking if you want to support local business. They're awesome quality bows too. I'm having a hard time finding an Elite Pulse out here. The dealer around here Flying Arrow only ordered the Pure and maybe the Hunter.
