hoosierhunter
Do you buy the expensive (100+) calls and do they really help. I've been duck hunting for about 8 years and I'm just starting to get serious now that I have a dog. The calls I have are just cheap ones. What calls would you recommend? 92xj
Do you buy the expensive (100+) calls and do they really help. I've been duck hunting for about 8 years and I'm just starting to get serious now that I have a dog. The calls I have are just cheap ones. What calls would you recommend? Yes, I buy $100+ calls and yes they make a huge difference. Everytime I go out, I have around $650 hanging around my neck. To some, this might seem crazy and insane, but to me, its worth every penny. I have owned and tried every call out there and also sold every call out there. The ones I stick with are Foiles. They are by far the best sounding calls I have ever heard. Now, with all the junk going on with him now, you might be able to find some pretty smoking deals if you dont mind blowing a call from Jeff. Customer service is the best I have ever seen. Call them up, order whatever custom colored or wood call you want and it is shipped that same day. Also, anytime you need or want the call tuned, you just send it back, they tune it and ship that same day. Free of charge. Customer service is huge for me. But in all seriousness, if you placed 5 of the biggest names out there with no markings, I could pick out the Foiles and I would use it. Their goose calls are awesome as well. Very easy to blow and sound the best well equal to Tim Grounds. His goose calls are nice but I found them to be a little low for me compared to the Foiles. Sometimes I will pick up one of my cheaper calls , under 50 bucks, and blow them and cant stand it. I cant blow them at all, cant get fast with them, they stick, sound like a dying pig and are just no good. They make for good decorations. One call that I do love that is under 100 bucks in the Big Guys Best, Death Whistle in flamed hedge. I think I paid 60-75 bucks for mine and is bought through Foiles Migrators. A great call at a cheaper price. Its my 4th call that I go to when I am hunting zero degree weather and I am waiting for my Foiles to thaw out in my waders. Nothing with stay unfrozen in that kind of weather.
dogdoc
I have 4 calls on my lanyard. The cheapest is a mallard drake/wigeon/pintail whistle. Probably 12 bucks. The next is a custom made cocobola call that costs 70 bucks. A HOBO acrylic single reed $150. Zink Money Maker Acrylic $150. I have a box full of polycarb duck calls and yes a good acrylic can do so much more. Depending on your experience with a call I would highly recommend the HOBO calls. The double reed ICU2 is probably the easiest call but the Prime Meat single reed will do a little more. todd
