It is in

My 11-87 is in and I picked it up tonight. Very happy with it so far. I just have to clean it and wait until this weekend to play with it. One question though for thoes that have 11-87 Super Mags do you leave the barrel seal actuator in all the time or do you just put it in for shooting 2 3/4" as the book recommends? I didn't put it in as I won't be shooting anything less than 3" in it anyway. I can't wait to pattern it this weekend.

Re: It is in

I only use mine when I shoot 2 3/4" target loads. Other than that, it cycle perfectly. I had a problem with it not cycling my reloads, but after a thousand or so with the actuator installed, it will cycle them without it.

I have the 11-87 super mag and still dont know what the barrel seal actuator is? Anyways i havent had a problem with cycling any loads i have put through it. If you are going too shoot lead shot i would recommend a Kicks Gobblin Thunder .655 constriction, i shoot Winchest HV #5s great patterns.

This is from Remington:

A barrel seal activator is used on the Model 11-87 12-gauge Super Magnum shotgun to improve performance when using light 2-3/4" loads. The barrel seal activator takes up the initial volume in the gas cylinder forward of the barrel seal Seat. It in essence nullifies the compensation system so that all of the gas on the light loads goes into cycling the action. When using extremely light loads, this eliminates power related malfunctions: such as not having enough bolt velocity to fully cycle the action or not allowing the action to completely lock open after the last round is ejected. It also positively seats the barrel seal and protects it from heat, which helps in prolonging its life. Removal of the barrel seal activator is recommended when using 3" or 3 1/2" loads.
