Someone even tried to enter it into a photo contest at my Local gunclub here in the Comox Valley yesterday Jan 15, 2011. (Posted on 19 October 2010 by Susan Engle) A new photo now making the rounds on Facebook and e-mail lists supposedly shows an elk hunter posing in the dark with his newly downed elk. In the background, eyes shining from a flash, is a mountain lion. The accompanying note says the hunter downed the elk, then set his camera, set the self-timer and shot the photo. The note says he only discovered the mountain lion after he had the film developed. Most of the Facebook posts and e-mails say the photo was taken “locally” and sometimes add that the hunter is a friend’s brother or a brother’s co-worker. Trouble is, the photo is a fake. A quick Internet check turned up the separate photo of the cougar that was Photoshopped into the photo of the elk hunter. Various emails and blog posts have said the hunter is from Colorado, Washington, North Dakota, South Dakota, Idaho and Montana. Who knows who he really is? Yes, someone did post it, but after seeing it at our local gun-club yesterday, and some guy saying it was a friend of his, I thought I'd do a little research, and came up with this. Didn't believe it for a second, not because of the lack of quality of the photochopper's work, but just another one in the long list of crap i get in emails that looks legit, but rarely is. Amazing how something gets started from one person, then on every local forum there is a guy swears that it's his brother's uncle's cousin's stepbrother. I can't believe someone took that picture of Kirks dads nephews brother of the guy they bought a parrot from and stole the cougar out of the background and photoshoped it into another picture to make it look like the cougar is standing all by itself and that the elk picture is a fake...
