92xj
I will always shoot my 22-250 for yotes. The one I have at the taxidermist now was killed with the biggest weapon that I have ever seen. A train.
wtnhunt
Will shoot a yote with whatever I can get my hands on or whatever I happen to be hunting with, but when I am out specifically hunting for them I take my rock river varmint in .223. Biggest yote I have killed here was over 50 lbs. We do get coydog mixes here, have heard of some that were over 60 lbs and gotten trail cam pics of some that were probably close to that. H&R2
a train will get the job done lol. but i use the 2 4 3 to get the job done my biggest yote is 40 pounds. never seen any other breeds of yotes
toddyboman
223 tc encore is my gun of choice.
mortensen
For general yote hunting I use a .223 Savage 1:9 twist and reload a 75 grain Swift Sirroco. If I go to higher elevations I'll go to a .243. Most desert yotes are small and weigh in between 35 to 40 pounds. One shot one kill. Tecumseh
22-250 loaded with a 50 gr Sierra Blitzking.
Jeramie
My .243 loaded with Hornady V-max Handloads. Deadly combo. Ive never weighed a yote. Typically we shoot and leave them lay.
doubleA
H&R2, Welcome to the Realtree Forums! I have had government trappers come to my property for the last 20 years in the spring and take out coyotes with cyanide traps/guns. I just dont see coyotes any more. If I did see one I would shoot with whatever I had at the time. Around here they are like feral hogs, the only good one is a dead one. dbHunterNY
I use my .223 Savage Model 12 varmint rifle, loaded with Black Hills 60gr V-Max's. It's heavy and doesn't handle as quick, but it is accurate. I've used an old Win chambered in 300 win mag before. That's the biggest gun I've used. I'd don't have anything bigger to use. Grady269
There is really no wrong answer to your question. I shoot a 22-250 for predator hunting. If did not have the 22-250 I would use whatever rifle was available. Deer Rifle will work fine. Shot one last summer with my Sig 522 he ate up 13 .22cal yellowjackets at 40 yds. Shaun_300
Whatever rifle I can get my hands on. If I'm going strictly for wolves or coyotes I take my .220 Swift or .25-06. Wouldn't hesitate to slobber knock one with the .300 WSM though.
huntnfish
During deer season I use whatever I am hunting with. During turkey season I have rolled them with my turkey gun. If just going out for yotes then I use my 243. It is the smallest centerfire rifle I currently own.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Typically use a 223, but occasionally I'll break out the 220 Swift. I have used as small as a 17 HMR and as big as a 7 mag. Yotes are actually pretty fragile animals and usually easy to kill.
BowtechTurkeyHunter
.338 Lapua LOL Jk LOL I have shot coyotes with my slug gun and have yet to kill one with my. 204 but that will happen soon enough.

i'm your huckleberry
Any deer rifle or centerfire 22 will suffice, if you want to have a laugh a 378 wby gets a chuckle goin if you don't hit em you sure deafen them with that damn brake... oh yah if you miss em listen for a YIKE from the yote. roflao

dodgeman1
i usually use a223 but have put a few down with the 30.06 while deer hunting
bowana
I use a Sig 522 with 3rd Gen night vision, a Rock River lower/Storm Lake Machine upper in 6.8 SPC, a Rem 700 VSSFII in 220 swift and a Colt Match Grade Lower/American Spirit Arms upper Bull barrel 24" in 223 Rem. Besides the night vision scope.....all Leupold optics. All of this hardware and I took my biggest yote with a muzzleloader (Thompson Center Encore) while deer hunting on opening day in Michigan in 2006 (approx 40 lbs-its a coydog, full mount in my trophy room). Biggest one I ever seen, helped my harvest my first Pope and Young buck in Pike County, IL. Huge yotes found in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. If I were to REALLY hunt big yotes.....I'd hunt central....North central Indiana.
LETMGROW
I guess it would depend on what you want to do with the Yote after you kill it. If you are going to pelt it out, the smaller the better as far as bullet size goes. Going to let it lay, the bigger the better. The gun of choice around here is 12 ga. with buckshot. Most serious dog hunters here are hunting with hounds. Consequently the shots are close enough the buckshot is effective. Lynn
dsharp01
I use a NEF Handi Rifle in .204 Ruger with Hornady V-max in 32 grain. This gun is very cost effective and straight shooting for a person new to yotes. Also use my Mossberg 835 with buckshot for they close up dogs. :gun2:
