pointing_dogs_rule
Likes: Adults who act their age Kids who act their age Information about the why's and where's of the setup Show everything, even the misses and blown opportunities Hunt a variety of ways and locations with a variety of weapons Do some public land and some private land Try something really different like hunting deer with dogs Dislikes: Overacting or over reacting Obviously staged scenes Showing too much camp time, cutting up, hijinks, and other fluff Blatantly pimping a product (I know, the sponsors want to see their stuff on the air, but don't cross the line into ad nauseum) Texas hit it right on, and I'll add a few. Dislikes: They may be good looking but does every show have to have a "trophy wife"? Hunting over bait (Wildgame nation), yes I realize it's legal in some states. Constant non-hunting scenes and bickering (Wildgame nation). A "GIMMICK".... (the Buck commanders) and bunch of guys in FACE PAINT copying Duck commanders. Driving around the plains of South Dakota in a pickup and chasing mule deer around every bend and jumping out so your wife can shoot a mule deer. (Wild and Raw). Yes the guy is a War HERO and I thank him for that everytime I think of him. I'm NOT PERFECT, but shooting a mule deer facing away from you at 200 yards (Wild and Raw)? Ethical???? "Adults who act their age".... This is just me and I all know we react differently to a hunt, HOWEVER... how many times does a person have to "FIST smack or High Five" his hunting partner. Seems like it must be at least 15 -20 times to get the real effect on these shows. Question: When will the Drury brothers get a cameraman that can actually hold the camera still and not zoom in and out constantly??? I'm for hire. Good points as Texas mentioned real hunting... Some of the shows that I enjoy the way they are produced. The Choice The new show...can not hink of the name. The guy hunts the hard way and actually guts and cleans a deer on camera. OYOA .... Own your own adventures Bow madness Jim Schocky Mathews TV with Dave Watson DO NOT LAUGH..... however I like that Roger Raglin guy. Wardens good luck to all the dog
Adjam5
I agree with most everything said here. Plus... I would like to see more regular folks doing regular things. Not like multi millionaire outdoorsman( Greg Ritz) shooting a $1200 rifle topped with $3000 Swarovski glass downing 180" bucks constantly in the newest neatest camo available with every new toy out there. I know sponsors are key elements of production, but many shows over do it. What about hunting with guys who have pieces of shirt tails missing? Duct tape cover the missing windage covers of the scope? Don't laugh...they are out there. I'd like to see Pro hunters going to areas not pre scouted and come out with ANYTHING over 125". m gardner
I don't get any hunting on T.V. but have some DVD's I buy when I have Cabela's bucks. Eastmans is my favorite. Especially one I have of Cameron Haynes suffering for days then shooting what amounted to a raghorn bull elk. Love that one! Real hunting. stevebeilgard
i'd like to see a show come back where t.v. and movie stars, singers, and politicians all came hunting or fishing somewhere. in the late '60's it was the American Sportsmas show. curt gowdy would take bing crosby pheasant hunting, or steve knally (dallas) mule deer hunting, or john wayne elk hunting, or slim pickens on a alaska bear hunt. each week a new celebrity, including politicians as high as vice president, out doing what we do. bring on another show like that. Really miss that show. Used to watch it with my dad. I can still remember Phil Harris and Bing Crosby walking around quail hunting. It wasn't even about the hunt. It was awesome just to hear those guys talk, tell stories and Bing would bust out a tune every now and then. I know I'm getting old, but it's not always about the kill. JJL
Have you ever noticed that even in the deep deep deep South the TV News team members don't have southern accents ???? They're trying to convey information to an audience and thick drawls are not condusive to conversation. If I flip on an outdoor show and the host sounds like he has a mouthfull of marbles.................his hat turned around backwards............his britches halfway down his crack.............and a truck that looks like it just came from a Monster Truck rally...............click...next show. This Hee-Haw Hip-Hop Gangsta Hunting isn't for me..............sorry.
Alisha
Like others have already said, I hate the shows with fake scenes before/after the shot. I don't need to see 20 different shot angles of your face before you pull the trigger. Dave Watson is one of the WORST I've seen for this. I'd love to see more hunts that are "real" and not always at some outfitter or ranch. I saw a show recently with Fred Eichler (LOVE him and his show!) where he went to WV and was thrilled to death to shoot a small spike and a doe on a small farm like me or anyone else would hunt. His over excitement after a kill is genuine and what I look for on a show! If the hunter doesn't get super pumped over their kill then I don't want to see it. There's nothing more boring than watching people like Larry Weishuhn go shoot his 1,000th monster buck or what have you, walk over to it, grab it, and be like "ho hum, there's another one for the wall", like it's no big deal.. :chair: I enjoy watching where they show a TINY amount of camp humor, but not 3/4 of the show. Could do without the rock & roll/rap before/during/after a shot. I don't ever recall hearing music playing while doing anything I listed in the previous sentence. LOL! My #1 least favorite hunting show on TV is Buck Commander (Duck Commander isn't any better). That show is the definition of what NOT to do.:bang:

He's just a more mellow person. However, like you I love to see people who genuinely get excited! STAN POTTS!!!!!!!

It was the best and it took you all over the world to all kinds of adventure. I remember brown trout fishing in Argentina with Phil Harris and Don Meredith (?). I remember a one show having country star Jimmy Dean in tears on an Alaskan Moose hunt. He was flat wore out as the guide wanted him to kill a true trophy. It was the only show of the kind in its day. Will always be on top of my list. I wish they would bring that style of show back. Repeats of that show would certainly show it is about the hunting and fishing and what you take from it other than a game animal or fish.....
