johnf
I went to Wal-Mart tonight to get a mouth call but had no idea how many kinds there were. There were probibly 30 different kinds with about 5-8 different brands ranging from around $3.50 up to $16. What is a good one to learn on (brand and cut). maddhunter
Re: Mouth call The tone troughs by H.S. Strut are easy to use, but the best I would say are Hooks calls. You can buy them online at HOOKS CALLS The sassy gal 2 is really easy and doesn't take mouch air to get good sounds from it. What ever call you get just carry it in your mouth a while and get used to it being there, may make you gag the first few times.
HeviShot
Re: Mouth call I would start off with the single or double reeds.A plain old Double D by H.S is one of my favorite calls.
Guest Squirrelbuster
Re: Mouth call I just figured out how to use the mouth calls this year. In order for me to figure out how to do it, I had to buy one of those H.S calls with the beginner plate in the call that helps position the reed in the right place for when you are trying to make the sounds. It worked for me it will probably work for you.

johnf
Re: Mouth call From the New Turkey Hunter post [ QUOTE ] I bought a double V cut tripple reed HS Strut last night. I have a student who won some turkey calling contest last year and said I sounded better than he does after 1 day of practice. I guess all these years playing the trumpet are going to help put food on the table in another way. The first 10 minutes I just spit on myself alot, but it got pretty easy after about an hour. By this afternoon I could cluck, yelp, cut and even purr. To purr I just hold a note on the reed and flutter my lips like I'm playing a tuba mouthpiece. He said it sounded right.
