A 160" buck loses rack after I shoot

A little late, but just thought I'd share this story and see if it has ever happened to anyone else. Our archery season ends December 15th here, so I decided to go for one last sit for a couple hours. Left work early, threw on a camo jacket and off I went. Not 20min on stand, this giant that I've never seen before comes into the field. I arrowed him at 25yds. But when he runs off, I noticed something fall when he ducked under a branch, wasn't sure if it was the branch itself, or as it turned out, his left side. I started tracking about 30min after, and find both antlers about 3ft apart. It's not uncommon for them to lose their antlers early, especially if there's snow, but this is definitely a first for me that a buck loses them while running away after a well placed shot. Regardless, still all smiles with my best buck to date. anything strange like this happen to anyone else?

i've heard of that happening here in Ohio in Jan etc... but it happend to those hunters while they were dragging the buck. tominator's track record around this forum is sorta suspect, but i think he's right...a good taxidermist should have no problem doing that mount.

nice buck man.

That is a great buck, congrats!

I had that happen with a much, much, much ( :D )smaller buck several years ago (about 18-20 years ago....). This happened during Ohio's muzzleloader season. There was quite a bit of snow on the ground at the time....I crossed paths with a buck while trying to push deer to my uncle. We saw each other at the same time, and as I pulled up to shoot, he turned to run. BOOM! Smoke filled the air and I couldn't see anything. I reloaded the gun and took up the trail. I found blood right away, and followed it toward a river. There was a steep embankment, but only about 10-12 foot of drop, and my deer laid at the bottom of it. No antlers! I thought to myself, "I know I didn't shoot at a doe?!" I looked down and almost between my feet at the top of the embankment was his antlers - plugged in the snow. He had been running hard, did a somersault and planted his antlers in the snow before sliding down the hill and dying. I still have those antlers tied together with a piece of leather string....

I had this happen last year on the last day of late muzzleloader. A little wounded buck came out limping so I decided to take him. Smoked gim through the front shoulder and he ran out in the field and did a flip. When I got up to him the horns were gone and I literally thought I had list my mind. Well after a little looking I found the horns under him.
