Propane prices

How much are propane users paying these days?

I just called to get a fill up and was quoted $3.69. Another supplier around here is at 2.09. My problem is my tank is buried yet still owned by my current supplier. Every time I fill up, I have call and negotiate my price... I got them to knock it down to $2.69 so it's obvious they are screwing their customers. They offered to sell the tank for $800 bucks last year but that is about twice as much as I want to pay for a 20+ year old tank.

I usually get a summer fill up, which I have to negotiate the price down as well, and rarely lock in my price for the year as I only go through about a tank and a half a year. It might be time to invest in an outdoor wood burner, or look into another alternative.

I can't believe I found this post as I have spent nearly a day checking local pricing for my daughter who is coming home in a couple weeks and needs her tank filled.

Her present co. wants $5.07.9 per gallon. I live across the road from her and have a different co. I just paid $ 3.09.9 per gallon for a fill up. She uses propane for hot water, cooking and a fireplace type space heater. Her main heat is fuel oil. I heat with propane, hot water heater is propane as well as our cook stove is propane.

Last year she used very little as she was living in GA where her husband was stationed. I in turn used 1155 gal. from 1/2010 to 1/2011.

I got her company to drop the price to $4.07.9 but I wouldn't hear of it.

We have found another company who will fill us for $2.99.9 for her and mine for $2.45.9. One other company would sell for less but they don't have any more tanks available right now and won't have until mid-March. Too late for her as she has until Feb. 15 to fill with her current supplier or have the tank taken away. If her current supplier takes the tank, they wan't to charge her a $ 1.00 per gallon restocking fee!

We have switched companies!

HOLY COW! I feel lucky out here in Iowa. Filled up on January 20th @ $1.67. Note: I do own my own tank so that makes a difference.

Can you buy the tank out-right from the company? It may pay off in the long run. Look at getting your own tank this summer. Tanks were going for about $1.00 per gallon, however, I'm sure the price has increased since that time.

good luck to all
