Jeramie
We are getting slammed by a big winter storm starting tonight. They are predicting around 1/4" of ice and or sleet. Then it turns over to snow. By Tuesday afternoon the general area should have around 8" - 10" with 14" snowfall possible in a thin band that will pass through the middle of this storm. Temps are suppose to take a serious nose dive. We have the possibility of below zero temps this week. Chances are ill be sitting at home tomorrow trying to stay warm! The crazy part is Friday we were over 70deg, Saturday we were close to 70 and now this stuff blows in. Welcome to Oklahoma.....

Tominator
Ohio is going to miss out on the storm of the season it looks like. Supposed to be mainly an ice/rain/sleet mixture for us. We'll see. The latest reports keep inching us towards more rain than ice/snow.
wtnhunt
Some were thinking spring was here early. lol. Tried telling them. Figured we would be up and down a bit here for a while yet. It was warmer here over the weekend, low 60's here today but yeah calling for it to get kinda nasty tomorrow, chance for severe weather then temps tumbling with highs after Wednesday not supposed to be getting much above freezing. Heard on the radio this morning a good chance of rain changing over to frozen precip at some point late tomorrow. Never know what the weather is gonna be like here for spring turkey, which is coming up quick. Might be wearing a t shirt, snakeboots, and using the thermacell or you might be wearing your long johns and winter season deer clothes might even wear both the same day. HuntingPA
I don't mind the winter storms (or I would not live in PA), but what is getting REAL old here is the ice dam buildups on the roof edges. Got two places on the northern side of my house where the water is creeping back in now and dripping at windows and in behind the kitchen cabinets on the first floor....I am not alone either I am pretty sure eveyone here t the office has it in one way or another as do most of my neighbors. This cold, mild, frigid, mild, hoovering aroundfreezing stinks....just freeze us down and lock it in PLEASE til mid March. We have had a good foot+ around on the ground all winter, more back in the woods, the stuff is so crusty now a rain event would be a disaster...spring is going to be UGLY. Deer aren;t doing much digging. One tip...get it off your roof while it is fluffy and easy to work with, unless you get a 70 degree day a day later... ruttinbuc
I just got back from taking the ML for a walk. I thought maybe the deer would be on their feet with the weather changing. I made the mistake of getting sweated up stalking through a big patch of pine and cedars. I didn't jump anything or cut many tracks for that matter. I guess they are pretty much hunkered down someplace where people are feeding them, waiting for the storm. Talking about snow into sleet, to freezing rain, to rain here. Oh joy! Jeramie
Upgraded! We are no longer under winter storm warnings, we are now under Blizzard warnings. They are expecting 13" + of snow in a 24hr period with 1" of sleet and ice to fall before that. Winds in excess of 40mph, low visibility, temps that will dip below Zero. This is not going to be a fun week.
Chester
According to the Farmers Almanac, February is going to be really bad for parts of Alabama as for snow goes. We are just getting over six inches of snow that was here for a week. I like to see snow, but when it shuts down everything for a week that is way to much for me. RangerClay
These storms have been missing northeast NY but we are going to get our share of this one. I smell a snow day coming!
Shaun_300
Wow that's a lot of snow for you guys! We're not getting the full brute of the storm here. Calling for 4-6 inches Wednesday, most of the system is going south of us. Toronto area is supposed to get 12".

I hope you get to stay home and keep warm. There's a decent chance that I'll have to go in to work for a bit tomorrow.

wtnhunt
our water lines are buried 8 foot down so they dont freez..cant imagine what a mess this cold does to your lines Put my water lines down around 24-30 inches deep here Martin. Freeze level here is supposed to be 18 inches. Have not had any issues with the water lines freezing in the ground, but have had issues with our frost free hydrants a few times and have also had the water line freeze up at the well back when our tank was underground. We've never had ours freeze up, not sure how far down they are. I know at my grandma's the house is very old, the water freezes up there quite often when temps dip down to -30 or colder. She usually just cracks the tap before bed so it drips all night to keep the flow going. For the past few years they head to Florida for January and February so the water is turned off and they don't have to worry about it. Gator
Knock on wood I've been lucky, minus the first year I was here. I have a cheap heater in the well house, heat tape on the lines that feed the house, and haven't had anything freeze up. This round I'm still gonna leave the water dripping

Jeramie
Now they are saying 18" - 20" isnt impossible. :bummed: Storm is going south of us here..thats about the fourth big storm you midwest/southern guys are getting...-40 wind chills too...wow, our water lines are buried 8 foot down so they dont freez..cant imagine what a mess this cold does to your lines Our frost line is only 18" too. Most lines are 24" and deeper. Water doesnt freeze too often if you keep the well house warm and leave the water running.
