Guest TennesseeTurkey
Who hates their job? I sometimes want to throw up when I sit at home and think about looking at someone's satellite on their home. I think I want to go into the Wildlife field either as an officer or as a biologist. Both would only require 4 year degrees which would be attainable BUT I bring the bacon home. Im not bragging when I post this next piece but just so you can see. I brought home 40K last year and my wife being the asst manager at a bank for the teller line only brought home 16K. We do really good and have plenty to blow/save/do whatever on making 56K a year with our bills, BUT I'm the one who we cant afford to lose work/quit and go back to school. Itsucks point blank... Thanks for reading my rant...
mike
Thats a tough spot to be in Will. There is alot of programs out there for people wanting to go back to school in the form of grants and low interest loans. Being miserable with your work is not a healthy way to live, it tends to show up in your life outside of work too after awhile. Wish I had the answers for ya friend! redkneck
That sux Will. I sure have had those job where I just hated every minute of every day that I worked. But you do those jobs for your family, then later in life look back and be thankful that you had that income at that particular time (or at least I do). All things have a purpose. Good luck in finding a job that's meaningful/fullfilling to you. Lots of great jobs with good pay that require only a 2 year degree/technical school. Keep your mind open. stevebeilgard
i'm sorry that you hate your job, but you do have a job. that's good news. maybe keep your job and do your online degree in wildlife. then quit your job when you get your degree and your new job with a wildlife division. anyway, i'm sorry you hate your current job. Shaun_300
I often get frustrated at work too Will. I love working on cars but the pay isn't the greatest either. I made about 10K less last year than what I made in 2009 thanks to a combination of work load, our stupid pay system and the place I work at. Some days I come home wanting to load the toolbox up and sell it and start something else, some days I come home loving my job and not seeing myself ever leaving. It used to be 90% of the time I was happy and 10% not happy, now it's the other way around. Wouldn't be surprised having a career change myself in the next year or two. buckee
I can't say I love my job, but I am very thankful to the Lord that I am working ..period. I may wish I was doing something else most of the time, but that's just wishful thinking, so I do the best I can at what I do. I take pride in my work, and love seeing a smile on my customers face when I'm done. That to me makes it all worthwhile. I am looking forward to the day that I can relax and pursue other things though.
RangerClay
I love my job. Teaching kids how to work with wood is a hoot. I would not trade my job. I hate the parents who think their child can never do anything wrong and that everything is the teachers fault. I hate the politics of the educational system that hog tie the hands of our adminstrators with no money and outragous expectations. I hate the mainstream media who think that lower test scores are caused by inferior teachers and not by the stupid standardized tests that we are brainwashing our kids with. I hate the ACLU which defend incorrigible students who should be in jail and not sitting next to your child on the bus.
ruttinbuc
I had a love/hate relationship with a lot of my jobs. I think it is the nature of the beast. Seems at times you are banging your head on the wall going 100 mph and not getting anywhere. There were times when it was all roses and never boring. Something different everyday. Burnout from doing the same old thing is a problem that does lead you to seek greener pastures. The trouble is the grass is not always greener on the other side. Do what you think you must Will, but realize keeping that job until you can do something is most important no matter how much it sux. Ohiobucks
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who loves his job. I meet different people all of the time, work with a lot of the same people over and over as well. Golfing, hunting, spending time with co-workers, clients and vendors. I helped my boss drag out his 153" archery buck last year, I was the first one he called, from his tree no less! I love my job.....
wtnhunt
Loved and hated working on satellites when I was a service manager, did that for about 5 years for a company that had offices in about 30 locations around the southeast. My office had around 5000 customers with some being as far away as 150 miles, was not uncommon to drive over 1000 miles a week running service calls. Those were all c band systems, we were installing rca systems for about a year before I quit. Was one of the first to take a training course from thomson to train installers. Money was really good in bonuses so long as our install numbers were up, the rca systems kinda killed that. Saw cuts in places including my own benes and left when I thought the time was right, and started my own business servicing and installing. My income took about a $10k per year nosedive before I quit. Still was a very good income for this area for that time. Shame is that office lasted just 6 months more and the person who took my place who I personally trained inherited that customer base for service contract and was funded by the company for so many years. Driving did get a bit old, but I was usually always home at night unless I was on the road training others or opening new offices, phone calls also got old, and the freaking pager I had to keep my wife threatened to flush after our first daughter was born. What was the final straw was the revolving door of sales managers. Saw more and more customers being sold on lies and just felt all wrong being any part of that even though I had nothing to do with sales. Hindsight kinda wish I had stayed with it. Was plenty frustrating at times, but always enjoyed technology and working with and repairing equipment. Far as getting into a wildlife field, have heard that some places are making cuts. Might wanna do a bit of research there. My oldest daughter is looking into the same field, keep telling her she needs to plan to have more avenues. The_Kat
At least your home with your family bud. I make excellent money but am gone months at a time. I enjoy my job, but it's not a job I can do locally. Good luck in a career change.

Strut10
Who hates their job? Nope. I've hated my job, probably, longer than you've been alive. Misery loves company. You are not alone.
