i'm your huckleberry
I wanted to buy a new rifle, it's down to a 700CDL SF LIMITED EDITION, or a MARK V SYNTHETIC, which is the best investment for the future value of the rifle? dbHunterNY
if i had to guess (which I do) i'd say the 700 special edition or not.
wtnhunt
A cdl sf is on my list of wants, but not the limited edition model. Which limited edition you looking at? Think it was .257 roberts in 2009.
i'm your huckleberry
wtnhunt It is the 2011 edition 6mm Remington .
snapper
Not everyone can own a Mark V....that would be my pick. You never know how the future will hold for the value of a gun will be. Get what you want and don't worry about the price of it.
m gardner
Firearms are usually a bad investment. Just get what you like most. I'd go with the Mark V.
Strut10
You'll probably not live long enough to see the Remington accrue any collector's value..................even if you leave it in the box and never fire it. The Mark V Synthetic isn't going to be a whole lot more money and, IMHO, is the better rifle.
i'm your huckleberry
Since my post i tracked down a Mark V german built 300, but 1500 dollars for a 70's built rifle sounds expensive, but when i'm in the high country after elk and RM bighorn it might come in handy if a grizz wanted my game. wtnhunt
Might check out gunbroker prices on new and used. Looks like some of the limited edition model cdl's nib are bringing about the same as the cdl's nib.
doubleA
Firearms are usually a bad investment. Just get what you like most. I'd go with the Mark V. You'll probably not live long enough to see the Remington accrue any collector's value..................even if you leave it in the box and never fire it. There once was a time when I wouldnt agree with this but in today's market I would agree with the above.
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Hey is that you Huck. I do trust the advice of most of these guys. As an investment a rifle is chancy at best as no one knows what collectors will fancy in several years. Get the one you feel most comfortable with and have fun. Remember you cannot shoot arrows from any of them. Lol
i'm your huckleberry
Started looking on the net and, found a gun show and an auction to visit one is this weekend, the other is first week of march............... with any luck could find something. The only thing with the auction never know what your buying, does it need tlc at your local smitty, or is it good to go? Freinds asking me will you be good to go sheep hunting in Alberta,Can.........oh by the way i am a resident of that province, and no draws for sheep for me! Only restriction is if i shoot one this year i can't hunt them next year.
hunterbobb
IMHO the Wheatherby Mark V is way over rated and way over priced. Not to mention how much the ammo costs. The Remington CDL is as close to perfect as factory rifles get. I don't think I would buy the limited edition model. I would just go with the standard CDL in a caliber you are comfortable with. I agree with the above. Guns are not a good investment. They are easy to turn into quick cash but you never get what you pay for them. :gun2:
LETMGROW
Frankly, for the price range you are looking at, I would consider the TC Venture. Dollar for dollar it is one of the best values out there. Detachable magazine, coated bolt, adjustable trigger, pillar bedding and 60 degree bolt. M.O.A. accuracy guaranteed. Avaliable in 15 calibers. Well worth checking out. As far as investment goes, you will probably sell a modern firearm for a small loss, but don't expect to make retirement money on any of them. Buy it to use and enjoy. Lynn Edited February 9, 2011 by LETMGROW
i'm your huckleberry
I found my pet! It's a 7mm Wby Mark V, with a R.K.S gain twist barrel, bore looks good c/w rings &bases $1000.00.He is also giving me his load data for TSX 130 and smokin too 3500 fps, accuracy depends on how steady u can hold it, sub moa @100yds, may drop the powder charge a little to have extra barrel life. Hardly wait to try it! The factory barrel is included. I would just like to thank everyone who replied for their opinions,Thanks again.
