Team Realtree
How much do you rely on moon and/or game movement charts in your planned hunts?
Ohiobucks
I look at the moon phases all of the time during deer season, but I don't let it dictate when I'm going to hunt. I do have the Deer and Deer Hunting calendar on my wall that shows moon phase vs. predicted whitetail rut behavior.....
mike
Never really paid much attention to them for hunting I guess Scott. I used to watch them when I did alot of catfishing though. Seemed to be something to it for fishing anyways Edited February 3, 2011 by mike
92xj
None, I rely on vacation time off or work and money. I will hunt no matter the weather conditions. I have killed animals in every moon phase, temperature, wind and rain. I will look at it, but I have and never will base my time in the woods off of the moon or game movement charts. They did not ask the deer in front of me when they were going to get up and move today.
texastrophies
Anybody that has spent any time in the woods knows that the moon phases affect deer movement. And yes I use that information to adjust my hunting. If it is a full moon and you know the deer are moving at night and then again during the middle of the day, I will remain in the stand longer in the mornings or all day possibly instead of getting out at the times I normally do. MCH
I plan my vacation every year around the moon phase. Will not take vacation during a full moon unless the rut is in FULL swing.

I would rather have a bad moon phase/time and good weather than good moon phase/time and bad weather any day.

Same here. I do hunt during the full moon, but generally don't use much vacation within about 5 days or after a full moon. I never really payed any attention to the game movement charts. wtnhunt
Hunt whenever I can regardless of the moon, but have watched moon phases and tried seeing if I could find a coorelation with deer movement. Full moon usually bad for morning movement, may stay out longer on or go out later on full moons if it is around the rut. Those game charts that predict best times don't seem to be too terribly accurate in my experience here with whitetails.
redkneck
Those game charts that predict best times don't seem to be too terribly accurate in my experience here with whitetails. Same here. I like to look at them, makes me feel better when I do hunt peak times, but I've noticed little in the "best times" posted on my nightly local news. I usually see fewer deer during the full moon, and see more of them closer to the middle of the day.
dbHunterNY
I pay attention to the moon phase, but I don't let it affect when I hunt. I try to get out whenever I can and stay out all day. For guided hunts elsewhere, there are usually certain time slots available based on this anyway with an associated difference in cost. Hunts during the peak rut, usually cost a little more. So whenever my life situations and finances allow time for a hunt, I go.
Texan_Til_I_Die
I've been following the sun/moon tables since the 1970's. Its been my observation that they're usually pretty accurate for predicting activity from fish and from predatory mammals, but not nearly as good for the grazers. Shaun_300
Never really pay much attention, I do know it makes a difference, I just hunt and fish every chance I get.
rhine16
Look at em everyday... If they are showing early and late movement, then I'm not going to spend all morning on stand. But if they show late morning movement, then I'll be there until 1.5 hours after the peak. Only exception is during the rut, then I'll be in the woods as much as possible regardless of what they say. Jeramie
I use the moon during deer season. If its a full moon I look for something else to hunt.
buckee
I hunt whenever I can, but I do watch the moon calender and look forward to hunting when it's up in the excellent. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't.
JimT
It does not affect my hunting plans at all...
Jorden
Whenever I can hunt determines when I hunt. Next would be weather conditions so I really dont pay attention to moon phase at all.
swohiodave
i check the charts but i do not live by them. I found sometimes they are pretty accurate but you can never predict when a big old buck will roam. I do tend to see less movement during a full moon. Tim Andrus
At home I dont bother with it,, If traveling I try to avoid full moon. I usually have enough problems without adding that lol!

woolybear
I tend to pay more attention to them after a hunt. Moon phase displays on my trail cams are tough to ignore.
