jcot2773
What is your favorite call choice and why?
Flintlock1776
I like a long, long box call and slate call and I use them interchangeably when hunting. But if I had to decide between the two for your poll then..................Cody Drop Dead slate
SourthenILdeerhunter
slate im lernign how to use a diaphragm and want a box call next but i always will go to my slate made by andy
rhine16
Slate without a doubt. I can't run a mouth call as well as i'd like.
Ohiobucks
I've got 2 slate calls made by Andy (bowhunter56), and 1 made by Dean (redbeard). All 3 of them sound great......
fly
Slate is easy to learn and I get more gobblers to come in from a slate than anything else I've tried.
toddyboman
My favorite is the one that has the long bird I am hunting gobbling.......and coming my way Sometimes it is the slate, box, diaphragm, push button or even the gobble shaker.....all depends on him
RangerClay
The shape of my mouth will not let me use a diaphram. I have a box call and a slate that I really like to use.
wtnhunt
I am really lousy at calling turkeys, but the little experience I have had the box call seems to work well for carrying sound, slates seem to work better for closer range softer calling for me. Chester
A vote for the slate. I am getting where I can use the mouth calls but still needs alot of work.
clrj3514
I voted diaphram. If you can use them, they can sound great & you need minimal movement.
Ethan Givan
Diaphram for me. I can make the most realistic turkey sounds with them, with no movement. I hunt by myself most of the time so I can keep my gun up and ready and still be able to call. I carry and frequently use slates, and box calls, but the diaphram is the easiest to use while running and gunning, and overall I think they sound better. need2hunt
I voted slate. It's easy to learn and makes great sounds, easy to carry 3-4 of them for different scenarios and can also change up sound by switching strickers. I usually hunt with slates and a Primos Double Stack mouth call, I will pull out a box call if nothing else is working.
dlriggins
slate over glass set in cedar pot. Love it for two reasons 1 I made it with help from a good friend 2 it has a different sound than some with harder wood that draws hens in close and where better to find a spring tom than with hens right. Turkeygirl
I've got 2 slate and 1 glass from A + J calls...beautiful work. Then I also picked up a box call at a local Amish store in my area...very nice as well. Slate seems to be my go to but I think I may be toting the new glass around this year. Strut10
Hard poll to answer. I voted "diaphragm". Learn how to use one well and you have the most versatile turkey calling tool at your disposal. However.......................... I love boxcalls for their volume and realism. I love them as works of craftsmanship. Probably have 50 or 60 of them. Maybe more. I also love the sounds from a good wood-pot slate call. I like building them from scratch and using them to kill turkeys. Don't make me pick just one favorite. But if I can only carry one call to the woods.........I'll have a 4-reed diaphragm with some wicked cuts in the rubber.
dbHunterNY
Team Primos signature series mouth diaphram call; Will Primos edition. Usually the only thing I end of having to use and my hands are free to fire. It lets you do anything from kee-kee-runs to cutting to yelps with emotion.
