hammerforged
I have a chance to upgrade my desktop to one with considerable more ram and better motherboard and graphics card, sound card , etc. With a virgin install of Windows 7 Home Premium. My question is, how do I get all my data from my old Vista system over to the new one? Please dumb it down as I am not a techie at all, if I can't heat it and beat it, then I am lost. Norm Sauceman
Just pull the hard drive and use it as a slave in your new one....
fly
If you want everything the software idea flintlock suggested or slave idea by norm may be the way to go. Generally I only need to transfer my personal folder files because my new cpu has more up to date applications. If this is the case just get an external hard drive (they are cheap now 250GB for 50 bucks) download then upload. The external hard drive is useful as a backup as well. ruttinbuc
There is software to do the job, It depends on how many files you have to transfer. The external drives are the way to go. You can just put everything but programs on them and then use those files as you need them. I have all my pictures and video files on external drives. When I need to edit a picture or a video I use those drive locations and leave the main computer render from there. So I recommend doing it this way
