Rhino
Re: The Big One Is Home [ QUOTE ] Hey Al...that sure is a great deer, but the question is...."Are you gonna hang up ALL the arrows you had to put in that monster to keep him down"..........if I have a chance at one like that, he would look like a pin cushion if he didnt go down with the first..........al [/ QUOTE ] I thought you'd bring that up dman. I actually thought about it after I took the pic but what was left of the arrows was too short to lay across the rack. BTW todd, I don't use my firepalce for much more than a nice center peice to hang trophies. Not much need to use one down here. Thanks for the info though. I didn't know about that issue. Thanks everybody for the kind words and congrats. Chances are I'll never bag another one like that again but I'll sure have a lot of fun trying. I'll let you know what the final talley is on his official score. BTW, I'll be talking to an official scorer tomorrow. He does scoring for both B&C and P&Y. He's a wildlife biologist but he's been out in the field this week but he will be in his office tomorrw.

hangunnr
Re: The Big One Is Home That's a beauty for sure. I've got one question for anyone. Will they officially enter a score if they can't see the skull plate? I've heard they won't consider it for the books if they can't see that the skull plate hasn't been altered. This is one reason I never entered my Y2K buck. I wasn't willing to have the mount disturbed. Anyone know for sure? hangunnr

There is nothing in their list of needs that requires that for deer. They do require pics from both sides and the front of the deer. I did those that day. I think they accept the mount pics for this too. I also have a pic of him while he was laying on the ground for proof that it was killed during legal shooting hours. I know if there is a question, they can xray that baby. As far as I'm concerned they're welcome to do that too. They also require a copy of the hunting license and tag along with an affidavit signed by the hunter. I'll find out what has to be included in the affidavit today besides a short story about the successful hunt. The affidavit must be signed by an Official Measuer (B&C or P&Y applications) or a notary. Of course they also want a check for the non-refundable entry fee too. I'll find out specifically about your question this afternoon from the official scorer and post his response. This scorer will scores for both B&C and P&Y. I'm dropinng my buck off to him at 2:00 and he said he'll need about 2 hours to do his official scoring goodies. That should give me something to do besides pace back and forth while he's doing his thing.
Tominator
Re: The Big One Is Home Man, that's beautiful Alan. Couldn't happen to a better guy. BTW--you might want to check into finding one guy to do both Pope, and Boone. A lot of those guys score for both clubs. Just a thought, might save you some money, travel, and inconsistent score. Rhino
Re: The Big One Is Home Too late now Tominator, he's in the hands of the official scorer. The scorer does B&C but he said P&Y accepts his scores. He just doesn't have the card. By coincidence this guy teaches the scoring classes and said he's had some that missed by 1/8th". Obviously a straight down the line guy. I decided not to show him my beach ball trick until after he scores it. hangunner This official scorer told me that they do not check the skull cap unless it's an unusual circumstance. For example if you brought it in and both main beams had a wobble to them they would check the skull cap to see if it's attached. Other than something like that they don't. ruttinbuc
Re: The Big One Is Home Nice buck Rhino! Pretty fast turnaround time from the taxidermist. Did he tan the hide or is it freeze dried?

Rhino
Re: The Big One Is Home I picked up my buck late Friday afternoon along with the paper work from a congratulatory official scorer for both B&C and P&Y. He officially scores as a 5x6 with a gross score of 182 7/8 and a net score of 175 1/8. The broken end off the left G-4 sure added to the 7 6/8” of deductions but I knew that going in. That really doesn't bother a bit though, I’M IN!!! All I have to do now is get the paper work and pictures together and send it in with my checks to both Boone & Crocket and Pope & Young. Leo
Re: The Big One Is Home I would guess that deer scores high mid 170s minimum with a very good chance at breaking 180. Let us know.
