LETMGROW
After seeing what Vermont Hunter has gone through trying to find a scope mount for his 887, I E-Mailed Remington and asked why they don't offer a bird barrel with a cantilever scope mount like the deer barrels. Simply change barrels and leave the scope attached. No more resighting every time you want to change out the barrels. Would you be interested in buying one? huntnfish
It would be a good idea to manufacture a barrel with that type of scope mount but it would not make me want to buy one. Just do not care for the look of the gun.
VermontHunter
I think you already know my thoughts on this one Lynn ...
Tominator
You mean a permanent scope rail on the receiver? Or a permanent scope for bird hunting? Either way, no, probably wouldn't buy one. I think it would be ugly, and it would probably screw up the sight plane.

More and more folks around here are using scopes and red dots on their field barrels. Most with interchangeable chokes. My thought here is the cantilever set up which is permantly afixed to the barrel like is available on many slug barrels. Lynn
Turkeygirl
I say keep it simple.... I had a Red dot on my turkey gun, worked well till last year found a piece in it is not broken and threw off the shot. just going to stick to fiber optic site on my gun this year. I do have a cantilever on myslug gun barrel though.
HUNTINGMAN
Thought about a red dot but just went with fiber optic sights,i can take them on and off and use my gun for every other thing i want to hunt just by changeing out the scope. LETMGROW
UMN, where do you see a plastic rib? Lynn
hangunnr
887 Nitro Mags are completely plastic coated if I remember correctly. So, my question remains....Is there any metal in the rib or is it all plastic?
VermontHunter
This from the Remington site ... Born of gunmaking expertise that brought you the best-selling, most trusted shotgun of all time – the Model 870™ – the new Model 887™ Nitro Mag is an armor-clad warrior here to carry the torch of our great pump-gun legacy through the most extreme conditions on earth. The most durable and reliable shotgun ever built, it has no external surfaces to rust. Our exclusive ArmorLokt™ construction process seals the receiver and barrel in a vault of weather-impervious synthetic armor, so you can wipe it down with your wet dog or a decoy bag at the end of the day. I'm pretty sure it's not plastic, it's more like a carbon fiber coating .. And YES, it's metal beneath this Armor Clad ..
