Jeramie
Too bad they couldn't keep it alive until they could get it to an aquarium! Whadda ya use for bait for something like that???? A calf????? Most people snag them. However they are carnivorous so hooking one on a jug line, trot line, etc. is common. A lot of people bowfish for them too. They have a mouth full of very, very sharp teeth. They are really a neat fish. Very few live to that age anymore. Too many people kill them because they can greatly affect the small fish population. Very cool animals..... We have tons of Gar here. Our current state record for Alligator Gar or Rod and Reel is 192 -01. I'm not sure what the un-restricted weight is... redkneck
FYI, I read from another website he netted the fish. That's my understanding, I think it's in the link I posted somewhere. Would have been a nice live addition to our museum of natural history, which is pretty cool.
