NS whitetail
I belong to the local Ground Search and Rescue Team. Last night at around 10:45 pm I got a call, two people on an ATV had went through the ice on a lake. One of the guys was rescued but the second was missing. Our team arrived at the lake by 11:30 pm and started to organize. We spent until 5 am searching the lake and shoreline and then decided to break until first daylight to continue the search. The ice was 6 " thick in most places but there was a lot of open holes and soft spots in it, therefore it was becoming dangerous for us. The RCMP Dive Team was called in through the night, the members are spread out so it wasn't until this morning when they could all arrive. At around 8 am we had searched the whole lakes shoreline and there was no evidence of the guy getting out of the ice. The dive team got in the water at 10:45 am and at 11:20 am, a RCMP diver found the body. Our team did all we could with no sleep at all through the night, we just kept pushing and hoping. I did not know the young man but many of my team did and one of our guys worked with him, they said he was a very nice young man. My prayers go out to his family.http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/9019932.html
BearClaw
I'm really sorry to hear what happened. We all appreciate people like you (first responders) that respond to the call to go in any kind of weather and regardless of the circumstances and try to save lives. Same goes to the fireman, policemen (Ladies too!) and all the others that sacrifice their time and time with their families to help others. THANK YOU!!!
