brynbrack29
Just a quick question, on average how many sheds do you find before you find a match set??? I have found 21 sheds in the last couple years and only 1 match so i was just curious.
Stone Cold
I have found 144 sheds in my life and only have 13 sets that I know are sets. I might have a couple that are a tad different and can not tell. I think it is really tough to match up due to other shed hunters, squirrels, and the travel of deer. deershed
So many things can determine the number of sheds found per matched set. If there's a heavy snow and it keeps deer concentrated your sets found will go up. Pressure or lack of on the buck during shedding. If the buck are pressured if might scatter them out over a bigger area lowering your odds of finding both sides. A good food sorce might keep them in a smaller area where lack of a good food sorce will have them traveling further spreading out the sheds. And my biggest problem other competition. If competition is picking up your missing sides there's no way your matched set count will go up. Myself I usually find 5 or 6 anlters per every set found. With that said I hit my areas over and over and as often as I can b/c of competition. Another problem that I have is my location.I shed hunt alot of surburbia areas and I believe alot of antlers get dropped out of reach of where I can go. So far this year I've got 34 sheds with 5 matched sets......
Turkeygirl
There is no real formula...kind of based on what you find where you find it when you find it and how many deer you have.... I think I find a matched set every other year or every 2 years.
Zambo
I find about 20 sheds a year with maybe three matched sets. Some sheds can be very difficult to see based on where they drop. Tall grass, cattail swamps, even heavy blow down areas and you can walk right by a shed at five yards and never see it. Also I have seen a coyote carrying a shed once. In fact the Cuddieback website had a picture of a coyote with a shed a couple weeks ago.
Crew999
I would say generally about 1 set per 10 finds, but it can depend on the year. Some years there are sets everywhere, and some years hardly any. Up here, I think in the years where there are big storms that keep the deer in their beds for days (at the time they are dropping), then there are lots of sets. If weather is nice and deer are moving, sets are uncommon.
