Muleyman
So I hadnt road the quad in a while so me and dad went to go get her started. Turns out the 4x4 isnt working. We looked and there is built up mud and straw around the linkage. We think that must have froze it and snapped the cable. Because if nothing was snapped you still shouldnt be able to flip the swith. Any other suggestions of what it could be.
TBow
I'm just thinking out load here, and may be out in left field, but does the 4X4 function on your bike engage electrically? If memory serves me right, my son's bike had an electrical problem a few years ago and lost all electrical power to the controls. We were able to get the bike started manually, but it would not switch the AWD function.....I think. Just something else to consider. Shaun_300
Hard to say Carson, check any fuses, if there is any for 4x4. What kind of bike is it? Electric shift or lever shift?
brad dryden
With the mud and straw setting on the cable I dont see it rusting the cable that fast unless its been on their for a LONG time and what have you. The lever in the 4wd box could be gunked up or if their is a sensor to engage the 4x4 it could be bad or loose wire.
dbHunterNY
first thing is the wash it and clean out all that mud and straw. then i'd say take the linkage apart or look it to see what's up. If you have a volt meter check the switch. first to see if it's getting power.
Muleyman
Shawn and tbow- Its a manual shift for the 4x4. Brad-Its not a sensor because its just a switch that u flip for 4x4 and you can tell when you flip it that somethings loose, it doesnt have that tug that it should. dbhunter- We are going to take it do my dads work and keep it in the shop to thaw out, and then we might clean it. Before we do anything major I just wanna start with that to at least find out if it is just simply a broken cable which I think it is.
