turningcustomcalls
Would you pay $5 to take a chance to hit a ping pong ball? This is a fund raiser for Realy for Life. If you hit a ping pong ball you'll win a $10 gift certificate to one of our local pro shops or either a $10 to a resturant. You're choice depending on what's left. I'll also have a purple ping pong ball and if you hit it, you'll win a $25 gift card to a resturant. $5 for 3 shots with a recurve. Winner gets a $10 gift card and all proceeds go to a great cause. I'm thinking about taking it too some pro shops and tournaments leading up to our 3d tournament for Relay. So, would you pay $5. P.S. I know it needs some cosmetic work. magnatecsteve
Great idea! Especially with using a recurve. If you said compound, Id say you'd be losing money. That wood box is gonna take a beatin' though. Lots of people who shoot compound think they can just pick up a recurve real easy....wrong!! Good luck with the fundraiser!!
JimPic
With that set-up...no. If you had the balls hanging from a string from the top of the box...absolutely! How many yards, btw
RangerClay
After looking at the pic I have a couple questions. How are the ping pong balls held in place? They don't look like they are pinched between the chicken wire. If someone hits a ball is another one put in its place? I would rather shoot at the original 10 or so ping pong balls than the 2 or 3 left over. Yeah I would give it a try.
pointing_dogs_rule
I did that once only it was a little different. Here's how it went a 2 foot piece of stick was attached to the ping pong ball and the ball was set in a pendulum motion (they some machine that went back and forth). You had to shot the ball off of the stick. I actually hit the ball when it stopped for a moment before truning directions. They just set a large stop behind the ball. We shot from about a 6 yards distance. Easy on arrows and simple to operate. good luck to all the dog
ruttinbuc
You could also take a shop vac and use the blower if electric is available. Or use a generator. Take the hose and tape it to a stake or post so it points up. Get a big funnel and tape that in the end of the hose. Put the ping balls in and experiment until you get the right height to shoot. them floating in the air. You may need to filter the hose end to limit the air depending on the power of the shop vac. Have fun.
woolybear
I'm a sucker for things like this even if it were impossible.:boo: You'd get my 5 bucks.
dbHunterNY
the chicken wire will wreck the arrow fletching in a hurry. i'd just tape the pong balls right to the target from behind with a loop of duct tape. keep refreshing the target with pong balls for an equal opportunity. 16 pong balls; 4 rows of 4. you'll need the right number of pong balls to make it seem like a "fish in a barrel" situation to get more people interested i'd think. i'd say keep it at 10 yards. limited to one certificate per shooter. glancing blows the don't penetrate the pong ball do not count. turningcustomcalls
There's an air pump in the bottom blowing the PP balls in the air. The arrow fletchings never come close to the chicken wire. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for your input. OK: How could the arrow fletchings never come close to the chicken wire, if you are shooting through the chicken wire? Am I missing something in that photo? Good luck on your fund raiser. the dog

Doc
That really looks like fun. Will you have equipment available or does the shooter use their own? What is the distance? Sights allowed? Some guys are pretty good with their recurves, especially when they finally get zeroed in on the target. By the way..... to answer your original question...... Yes I would pay the $5 for the shot, and probably do it several times. It's one of those things that are a challenge an archer simply couldn't pass up....lol. pruts
I would definitely try it. Even though I have never shot a recurve, I think it's a great idea!
elkoholic
I would give it try. Instead of the chicken wire, I would suggest a fine fabric screen.
turningcustomcalls
I've got a recurve and a few mis-match arrows. I'd like to find use a mathews gensis, but haven't ran across the right deal yet. Honestly, the chicken wire hasn't been a problem. If the arrow hits it, the diameter is so thin it doesn't effect it. dbHunterNY
I guess I didn't realize the whole pong balls blown into the air concept. I was thinking of all the carnival games with the stationary balloons and other targets. That's a different idea.
