RangerClay
I'm going to build my first bow rack for my new Hoyt. This is where I'm going to hang it up in the off season. I plan to hang the bow horizontal. When on the hooks, is ok to hang the bow from the string or should I hang it from the limbs?
msman825
I'd hang it from the limbs not the string

VermontHunter
This is what I'm going to be building shortly .. All stock is 3/4" except for the drawer back. Verticals are 2 1/2" x 23" with a 1/2" tenon on each end (started with a piece 24"L) Verticals have 1/2" holes 1"x1 1/2" O.C. pattern Verticals spacing is 7" - 14" - 7" O.C. centered in the rack Top shelf is 31 3/4" x 4 1/8" with mortises cut to receive verticals Top trim front is 2 1/8" x 30 1/4" mitred at 45deg Top backsplash is 3 1/8" wide with 2 holes 16" O.C. for screws into wall studs Bottom backsplash is 2 1/8" wide Bottom shelf is 33 1/2" x 5 1/4" Drawer is 32" x 4 1/4" x 6" w/ mitred corners. Drawer back is 1/2" thick with screw holes 16" O.C., again for stud mounting. Pins to support the bow are 1/2" oak dowel rods. The rest of the lumber is used ash I planed down to 3/4". If I ever make another one of these I will make the bottom shelf 5 1/2" D and the drawer 4 1/2" and drawer back 3/8" thick instead of 1/2" as I had to cut the hinges off the Plano tackle boxes shown on the right to fit in the drawer. Having the drawer 3/8" to 1/2" deeper would be perfect for those. I have no exposed screws or putty except into the back of the rack which are not visible when mounted, and of course the 2 top screws in the top backsplash to actually mount the bow to the wall. I used mortise and tenon as well as biscuit joints and glue, again except for the two center verticals which are screwed into the backsplashes from the back, not visible when mounted. As to your question Joe ,, I've always hung mine by the limbs ... Edited March 2, 2011 by VermontHunter

VermontHunter
Joe, I checked with the staff at the bowshop I have my Hoyt serviced at and posed your question to them and this is the answer I got ... hang your bow from the limbs or cam, NOT the string ... okiedog
I hang all of my bows by the cam, but if I was going to hang them horizontal it would be by the limbs.
