NS whitetail
This is my first experience using a gps in a car. I am down here in Florida. On Sunday, I drove from down here in Treasure Island up to Busch Gardens, the gps lady took me there and back the same way with no problems. Today, we drove back up to Busch Gardens and she took me the same way, however, when we left there to come back at 5:30 pm, she directed me back a somewhat different way which took me through back streets and such and it took longer to get back. I was starting to get confused, but I trusted her and she did get us back. My question is ..... why would she bring me back an all together different route ? gzilla45
Probably because you had it set to shortest time instead of mileage and she was taking traffic into account.
hammerforged
If the GPS has real-time traffic then there could have been some accident issues with the original route. Mine updates traffic every 15 minutes and alerts me if there are any accidents or delays on the route I am on and suggests drive arounds, if it is aware of problems at the start of your trip then it will automatically calculate an alternative route rather than start you out on the original route and have to re-route around the problems. TBow
I just went to Georgia and return and we used a GPS. On the way down it kept us on the major interstates. On the way home it should have kept us on the same route, but coming into one city in WV, it tried to alter us off of the interstate. We disregarded the GPS and stayed on the interstate. Ahead of us was construction work, but as it was evening, there was little to no conjestion, so our progress was not impaired. I merely assumed that the GPS system updates itself via satilite with regards to traffic (as has been mentioned) or other restricting issues such as larger current construction projects and routes you accordingly. But I must admit, there are times when I used more than one 4 letter word in regards to that dang nabbit GPS Tokyo Rose! TBow

elkoholic
Real men don't ask for directions from anyone. After reading stories about GPS units guiding people into the middle of a desert where they die of dehydration, I can only say that I could do that on my own. How did we ever survive before all this technology? Plug me into the matrix. Sorry, I digress. At least you got to see some different scenery and maybe missed the opportunity to be stuck in a traffic jam.

wtnhunt
Our gps typically routes the shortest route, however it does not always have all the current roads or even some small roads that have been there for forever and there have been a few times that it has taken us the long way around. I have noticed that if you get close to where two roads merge the gps sometimes has difficulty differentiating which one you are on, possible that happened with yours and it adjusted for another route, dunno what else might have caused it. Flintlock1776
Did your system come with an instructional DVD?
NS whitetail
Did your system come with an instructional DVD? It is my brother's GPS, so I'm not sure. I am thinking that it was rushhour when we left the park, so maybe she got me to avoid some major traffic jams.
