depending ont he water i would look for drop offs and ledges running into shallopw water if the weather is warm they will move up just like bass and hit the warm water and also in the river get inside of the lay downs and trees there as well and on the edge fo the eddys

Try chicken livers and hot dog chucks for bait as well. Fish the front side of any major jams in the flow as there will usually be a small depression there that will hold some fish. Try around the corner of inside bends and just ahead of the inside bend on the opposite bank. I'd tend to go with heavier line, 20# minimum. You'll be fishing in some nasty cover.

Channel cats like current breaks, log jams, brush piles, bends in the river, things like that.If it blocks or slows the current down they will be in there.

Worms are good bait but they attract a lot of other species you might not be targeting. If you dont like taking a lotta carp off go with a cutb bait, or a larger bait like chubs, shiners, or whatever other baitfish are in the area your fishing.Stink bait works good if your targeting smaller cats for eating, if your after bigger cats stick with natural baits of some sort.Since youll be fishing near heavy cover like brush go with a heavier line then you normally would, 20 lbs about the lowest Id go.You can catch them all day but the early morning and after dark bites are the best, things can slow down fast a couple hours after sun rise.
