NS whitetail
This evening, we had a Ground Search and Rescue monthly meeting, it was brought up that we need new flashlights for any night searches that we may have to do. Does anyone have any info on a really good flashlight that gives really good distance lighting, good battery life and overall a real good personal flashlight that would make night searches easier ? Shaun_300
The LED Mag-lites work pretty good. Had a dud the first one I got but I got a replacement one that worked flawless until I left it in a customers car a couple months ago. :bang: Got to get another one of those. They're about $30 but well worth it. That's just the small version, you can get the great big long ones in LED too. All depends what size you want but I highly recommend the LED Mag-lite! BearClaw
Check the Streamlight line. They have good prices on Opticplanet.com.
USAFbowhunter
I have used Surefire, Streamlight Stingers, Pelican, and Maglite's and they are all really bright but the Surefire, Pelican, and stingers don't have long battery life. The Maglite 2 or 3 D cell LED had the longest battery life out of them all.
Leo
I guess you're looking primarily for a search and rescue light. That light needs to be extremely bright to see long distances. I have been looking at these. I don't have one but it sounds like the 852 Search and Rescue model is what you might be looking for. Check out the Lumens rating (higher is brighter). Bowtech_archer07
I know a lot of law enforcement personnel that swear by this light. Mag-Lites are good, but I personally don't think that they have the same light power as these do. Streamlight also makes a smaller light, but I can't find a link to it right now. This will be one of my essential pieces of equipment very soon. Stinger® Series - UltraStinger® | Streamlight
LETMGROW
I wouldn't recommend rechargeable lights unless they are kept at the station in chargers. You can't depend on all squad members keeping the charge at full capacity all the time. Keep it simple and uniform. The 3 cell Mag lites would serve you well. Keep an ample supply of batteries and bulbs on hand in the response vehicle for replacement. If members are going to carry them in their personal vehicles you might require them to bring them to each meeting to check the condition of the lights and batteries. A responder with a non working light is pretty much useless. If the squad buys these, they are the property of the squad. Not for personal use. Flintlock1776
We use Streamlight in the FD but for my personal gear I have SureFire. Perhaps the department will switch over.
