woolybear
This family group of deer has been visiting again daily to munch on that unknown tree in the pics. I managed to snap a couple shots I liked the past few days. I love the tounge shots, but just noticed that stupid reflector melting out of the snow bank along the driveway, lol. It sure doesn't give them much of a wildernessy feel. ...and a few waxwing shots. They are visiting in flocks and are picking these trees clean of their fruits in no time flat. A real fun bird to watch and they give you all sorts of interesting looks.
ruttinbuc
Great shots, Matt. Seems like your patience is really paying off! Those waxwings are a cool looking bird! As for the reflector you can cut copy and paste another piece of snow and cover it in post.

Shaun_300
Great shots Matt! Love the waxwing shots. First one looks like the bird was painted into the pic. Too cool!

Tominator
Those are awesome shots bud! Are you cropping those, or do you have a really long lens? Those waxwing shots are really good. BTW--those little trees look like some sort of spruce.

Alisha
Love the waxwing shots! What kind of camera/lens are you using?
woolybear
Wow.. again..., thanks for the feedback everyone! Chris- Yup, these are cropped as well as most of my other shots. Basicly I center my subject and work with what I get from there and do the cropping right in the cam with the on-board option before loading to the puter. As you know, too tight a crop and you loose the detail so I try to keep it to a minimum. I was only about 8 feet from those birds so it didn't take much. The deer were about 50 yds and didn't come close to filling the frame. I tried some portraits but lost too much quality on them. Alisha- My cam is a Nikon D-3000 and the lens I've been shooting is a Sigma 70-300mm. It's about as cheap of a DSLR set up as you'll find. I don't think they even make it anymore. Pretty sure they replaced it with the D-3100 that's supposed to be quite a bit of beginners entry level upgrade with an improved image sensor. As is the case with most of our hobbies, one day I'll upgrade. It does have a lot of limits to it's ability, but I just try to get closer to my targets to compensate. Just to give you an idea...this is what I sit behind for the critter shots. Before anyone asks....this was taken with my Kodak Easy Share C-183 for $59 from Wally's,lol!
