So far, all the flies I been tying are for trout. My latest is some dry flies. Sulphur emerger and dun.

This is a good pattern to have anywhere, midges. Various colors, but my favorite is a red midge, silver bead, red thread, and silver wire. Size 22-18's

I fish a lot of tandem rig flies, two flies at one time. I hate having to use lead shot to help flies get down. I made these up on my own mostly as a way to get down fast. But they still work to catch fish. Known as a San Juan worm, I called this one a Super San Juan worm. I used a tungsten scud weight to the hook then the chenille. They are pricey considering ten weights for about $5! But then the fly shop charges $2 per fly! So their 50 cents a piece. ;)

My version of a fly called not looks, lightning bug. only difference is the thorax. I used pheasant tail, not flashback or tinsel.

New product just recently called the Uni-Bobber. I am more of a nymph fisherman, but the bass fisherman in me loves top water! ;) I use this fly as a part of a dropper system. If it goes under, then something took the dropper fly! ;)

I use a Peak Rotatory vise. Peak sells a soft pack case for $30, this is a scoped handgun case, $10! Much better protection as well!

I also tie up the following flies. Rainbow warrior, copper johns, pheasant tails, many different colors of midges, and several other kinds of trout flies I found on Youtube. ckrich, get into Youtube and type in the fly you want to start with. I am self taught, never had any cases. Learn the proportions and have fun! ;)

I know...lol.

Hey, maybe some time we should trade flies,lol....;)

I might be up for that. In another forum I belong to, they do a fly swap a few times a year. Mostly for trout streams. I think its a cool way to learn about other patterns, and maybe something that you don't have might work great in your local streams. But I don't think there is enough fly tiers in here.

Thanks for the tip. I've already been browsing youtube for a while, just watching and trying to get a handle on some of the techniques. I've found a ton of good recipes on Charlie Craven's website that I want to give a try. Mostly trout patterns, with a few big nasties for stripers and bass thrown in there.

I like your idea of a tungsten bead on the san juan. Lately I've just been adding a heavy copper rib with some small wire I salvaged from here and there. It looks pretty crude without having a vise to hold the fly, but it still gets the job done.

Also, if you want to get a few flies for reference models or what have you, check out Big Y Fly Company Premium Discount Fishing Flies, Trout Flies, Fly Fishing Shop . I've been buying nearly all of my flies from them for about a year, great quality and you can't beat 50 cents a fly.

Oh my! I have been busy! LOL!!!

Finally got a little better organized. I got these 12 compartment boxes up at Bass Pro the other week. They hold way more than the other boxes I have, with less bulk! Just in the last 3-4 weeks I been trying to get caught up in some much needed tying for this year. Don't get me wrong! But its more than I had last year!!! I know some of you probably have 100 times more than this! :o But, to think how much money this would have cost to buy them at a fly shop. Even at $.50 a piece would have not covered the cost of materials! Not to mention I have tons more material to keep tying what I have here! It certainly pays off learning to tie your on flies!!!

I spent the last two weeks stuck in a hotel in Dallas doing some training for work, so I decided to get some tying stuff and try to teach myself during my down time. I ended up spending more time stripping material off of hooks, but I think I am finally getting the hang of it. I know I've got a long way to go and tons to learn, but it is a lot more fun than I expected. Here are a couple of flies that I tied.
