slb9981
Guys I'm wanting to go on a guided fair chase hunt. I live in Florida and have always hunted down here. I've killed a few decent bucks to our standards 80-90" but would really like to take a nice 150"+ whitetail. I'm looking into Iowa but will consider other locations. Im just an average guy and looking to spend around 3,000. Does anyone have any recommendations on who to go with? Seems like there are several that will rip you off. I generally get sucked into those traps being the nice guy I am and trusting everyone. Also, what should be my realistic results. Most promise success rates of 60-70% but is that realistic? It is hard to justify going knowing I may be just enjoying the outdoors and not bagging anything. Although, I do realize that's part of fair chase hunting. Secondly any other advice is appreciated. Thanks.
stevebeilgard
first thing i'd do is contact a good booking agent. there are lots of them, starting with cabelas. you can find the bucks you're looking for in northeast wyoming, southern montana, and western alberta. of course, there are plenty of other spots but i just hit a few of the know big buck areas. Tim Andrus
Steve pretty well summed it up . Though Wy,Mt deer draws are over as of the 15th of March. But there may be left over tags have to call the game and fish after the drae is over and see You may draw Iowa for gun season depending on what unit, bow tags usually require 3 pts in the draw, muzzleloader season is like the gun season depends on unit. What is your preference on weapon? bow hunts are generally a little cheaper than gun hunts. Kansas can be awesome with bow should draw most units, un season can be tough conditions as buck are outta the rut ususally ( dec opener) Ohio, over the counter tags , great bucks as well.. Illinois have to draw but good odds on both great deer.. If you need more info would be glad to help Tim
need2hunt
As for Iowa the only outfitter I've been to is Tails of the Hunt with Aaron Volkmar, this is the website Tails Of The Hunt I filmed there for a week in Early November of 2009. That week from the stand I saw two deer that were definitely Boone (170+) and one that was a maybe. Also saw several 140, 150 class deer. The guy I was filming shot a 152 on the last day of the hunt. Aaron's ground is in Southwest Iowa and he also has land in Northwest Missouri (over the counter tags in Missouri)
