Zambo
I have a hunt book with Hadley Creek for October 1rst. Has anyone hunted with them and what can you share. I am not naive, I understand that the success rate is 20% for bow hunters and there is more to a great hunt than just killing a buck. I will not be disappointed if I am unsuccessful harvesting a buck as long as the guides work for my success. One question I have is do the guides expect a tip? How much would you tip for a successful hunt and how much if you were unsuccessful ? What have you tipped a guide ? Thanks,
HOYTnMUZZYboy
Have heard many different things, good and bad about them. Everyone is different. Enjoy your trip, and as far as tipping I guess it will depend on how well you thought the guide was.
wtnhunt
I may be wrong, but I think Frank(rookiee) here on the forums had purchased some land in southern Illinois and thinking I remember that he may have leased that land out to Hadley Creek, which would have put him in position to have done some dealing with them. Have not seen Frank on here in some time, but might be worth shooting him a pm and asking him.
MUDRUNNER
There used to be lots of information about Hadley on Archerytalk. You might want to go there and do a search. Some was good, some not so good. As for a tip...if you have a good guide that does whatever he can to put you on deer and your pleased with his service then I think he would deserve a tip. We usually tipped our pheasant hunting guides 5%, but I know a hunt at Hadley is more than a South Dakota pheasant hunt.
bwana72
Just my opinion, but I have never based my tip to a guide on it being successful or unsuccessful. I have always based it solely on how hard they worked to get me my animal. One thing that I have always done when I go into a camp is to do everything that I can to help the guides out. That extra effort on my part has always translated into them going that extra mile for me. And I can honestly say that virtually every guide I have ever had has ended up being someone that I considered a friend and in many cases stayed in touch with afterwards. And as far as the amount, if you are happy with your hunt, 10% is pretty much the standard. Hope you have a great trip, and be sure to let us know how it goes. Ravin R10 man
I'd bet $100 would be about right
dbHunterNY
I'd bet $100 would be about right closer to what i've been told.

fly
Hope the trip goes well! Early October can be tough hunting for big bucks in IL. Bet you see a ton of does and young bucks. If you get an opportunity at a big buck then that's worth a little extra in my opinion. If you miss it or get it, they did the work to get you on a big buck and deserve the same tip in my opinion. If you don't see a big buck at all then the tip would be lower. If you feel they worked hard: 50 bucks. If you see a shooter: 75.00. If you get an opportunity 100.00. If you get more than one opportunity then maybe even a little more.

hoythunter37
I have not been to hadley creek. But I am a guide for an outfitter here in missouri and I would have to say from a guides perspective you need to give him a tip. To me it all depends on how hard the guide works. If your not seein deer and he is moving you around to try and get you on some or if you are seeing deer but just not shooters then in my opinion that is what a hard working guide will do for you. Just my opinion though. As far as price I think I am on the low end, I charge anywhere from $75-$100 a day.
hoosierhunter
Congrats on springing for the hunt. I've hunted with a couple of outfitters but not for whitetail. I'd say about 200 should be good, but it depends on how involved your guide is.
AceArcher
I would think a 10% tip is standard...$300 - $400 for your trip if you are satisfied with your hunt. However, if they put you on a bunch marginal bucks (and their are plenty in their success photos) I would keep my money.
