Team Realtree
We have had a great partner here at Realtree.com and I told them I would help spread the news and do it here in the Lounge: It's the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Many of us working here at Realtree dream of hunting Elk out west and the first step is applying for the tags. Colorado does do a great job of making the process easy. Have you done it before or plan on doing it soon? Share your stories with us here in this thread or over on Facebook! Hit this link if you want to add to the FB thread The tag deadline is April 5th, 2011! (I posted April 4th on Facebook by mistake) If you want to go to their site directly: http://www.huntcolorado.org/ Thanks, S
texastrophies
I started applying in Colorado in 2006 when we had the Realtree Elk hunt. Have been applying every year since then. Have hunted Colorado one other time for elk also. Most years I have just applied for preference points. The Colorado online system for doing applications is very simple and idiot proof. Colorado uses a true preference point system where the person with the most points that applied for a hunt is drawn. When you use the information that shows the history of how many points is required for a hunt, it allows you to know ahead of time that if applications remain consistent if you will be drawn or not. Of course they always have the fall back plan of OTC (over the counter) elk hunts, also. That way if you just want to hunt, you can buy a license and go. Great for when you strike out in your other applications.
m gardner
The nice thing about Colorado is that you get corrections as you proceed through the application. Use the Statistics pages to plan a hunt. There are some very good areas that are undersubscribed and produce for us every year with no preference points. JJL
We here in Colorado HATE the DOW. For one simple reason. They are prostituting our natural resources. We as residents would love to share our elk with other hunters, they're only doing it for the MONEY . PERIOD...............NO question about it. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has done more for the Elk in this State than the DOW will ever dream of........................The DOW needs to fess up to their idiocy and prostitute nature and maybe they'd get a little more respect here in Colorado. Watch out who your friends are......................

Watch out who your friends are...................... I've lived in different places and there are far worse places than Colorado. At least there are opportunities and the prices are resonable. Here in Az I may not live long enough to draw a good tag. Heck, they won't even let you pick up roadkill here!
