Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon ??

Recommended Posts

Anybody here driving one or the other??

My Grand Cherokee is on its last legs. Been looking at the GM half-trucks. Would go with a Silverado except for maneuverability issues in tight quarters off-road. I'm too used to being able to whoop my Jeep about-face wherever I want to.

I need a vehicle that will drag a 3000 lb. boat/trailer combo up and down some pretty steep west-PA hills. Will the I-5 engine handle it without the 4.10:1 rear?? Or should I be looking at the 5.3?? Thing is..........pretty much any truck with the 5.3 is in the $31-$33K range, which is insane for a toy truck.

Input???

The I-5 3.7L is a stout little engine! I think they're rated at around 250hp/250tq. I was really impressed with them. Lots of power for the smaller truck. Haven't seen one with the 5.3L yet, imagine that'd be a fun little truck! :D I think if the Grand Cherokee pulled the boat with no issues, the Colorado with the 5 cylinder shouldn't have an issue. Sounds like the 5.3 would be ideal, but I'm sure the 3.7 will do the job just fine.

The new models haven't had many issues whatsoever, can't think of one common problem with these trucks. Unfortunately you can only get the auto transmission with the 5 cylinder, only can get a manual with a 4 cylinder. Stupid I know, I'd prefer the manual trans any day!

Don, I was just playing around with the build and price on the GM website and it looks like you can get a 4x4 with the 5.3 for around $25K. Sure are a lot more expensive up here. That's a pretty good price if you ask me.
