hangunnr
The Smith 1911s are some very nice pistols. A little over priced IMO but still a nice piece. Of the two choices listed I'd go with the Springfield. They really cleaned up their act when Kimber started claiming a lions share of the 1911 market. The quality of their guns is generally pretty good these days. hangunnr

[/ QUOTE ] Not to mention you don't have to be a machinist to do some upgrades yourself. There is alot of aftermarket parts for 1911's that you can install easily. spyderpancake
Re: .45 ACp 1911 I almost got one of the mil-specs in OD green and black, but decided to buy a .17hmr instead. They are good guns for the money. Also, the Rock Island Armory 1911's are decent for a bare-bones .45. My brother bought his new for $280, and it will shoot right up there with the Springfield Loaded.
slugshooter
Re: .45 ACp 1911 I've got the Springfield GI Model and haven't had any problems with it. I took off the wood grips stamped with U.S. cause I didn't want them worn out and replaced them with Pachmayr grips made of Rosewood with rubber finger grooves, makes the gun look good and reduces recoil somewhat. slugshooter
Re: .45 ACp 1911 When I grow up and become a man or win enough money so that spending $1500 on a gun won't leave me dead from my fiance shooting me with said gun, I would like to have a Les Baer Premier II 1911, I will accept donations or gifts from you all to make this a reality.
