huntermomof4
This past week , the Gillett Gun Club saw a lot of action , there were many kids that got a chance to go out hunting with a mentor for the first time in there lives. My daughter was one of these kids, I am so happy she and my other kids have had this option given to them there really is nothing better then seeing your child achieve something that many adults may never have the chance to do. This past weekend, my daughter Hanna, shot her 1st turkey , he weighed in at 23lbs with a 9 3/4 in beard and 1 5/16 spurs on him, she really hit the big one! I am so proud of her and all the other kids that came in one by one with smiles on there faces and all the many stories to tell those of us that were not there with them. This is what they mean by making memories for a lifetime. I personally would like to thank all the land owners and the mentors that helped this hunt happen for these kids, if it wasn't for all of you these kids would not have the chance of a life time of making memories and the opportunity to continue this tradition for there children and many more to come. Thank you! please check out our pics at http://www.realtree.com/forums/members/huntermomof4-albums-2011-learn-hunt-gillett-wi.html
PotashRLS
Thought I'd post some of the pictures so folks could see. There were 17 youth that hunted. In 2 days they killed 12 birds total with 11 being adult Toms and 1 being a bearded hen. The remaining 5 youth will be out again this weekend trying again. It is always a rewarding time helping the kids get excited about hunting. The bird below is the one my youth (Hanna) shot Saturday morning. He was 23 1/4 lbs with a 10 3/4" beard and 1 5/16" hooks. She put a great shot on him with a youth Rem. 870 20ga shooting 3" #6s. It was a lot of fun. We got nearly 4" more snow Sunday that turned into rain. It was a sloppy, cold weekend with a lot of warm smiles.

ruttinbuc
That is pretty cool right there. Getting those kids out and getting them involved deserves a big thumbs up! They did darn good, too!

PotashRLS
When all was said and done on the second weekend, only 2 youth didn't bag birds. It certainly wasn't without trying. Total was 15 for 17. 16 adult Toms, no Jakes and one bearded hen. It was a great time and the kids are still talking about it. One girl even asked me to take her with me when my season rolls around the first week in May. Pretty cool to spark an interest in kids! Sorry, my math is bad apparently..........14 Toms and one bearded hen taken, not 16 Toms. Either way, it was a ton of fun.
