colorado bob
How many here go their local banquet. We had ours last Saturday. It was a sell out 125 at the BPOE Lodge. I'm the president-----I was tickled pink. How big is your banquet? CB
Ravin R10 man
Went last year but did not attend this year..heard it was not sold out either..did not attend the Friends Of NRA either... I still say it's far cheaper to go buy the gun I want rather to blow that amount on tickets and not wind up with anything.
toddyboman
Yes I am on the committee for our local NWTF.......however I am the co-president of our Whitetails Unlimited. Our NWTF is not very big....we have maybe 100 people at our banquets. Haven't had our yet this year. Our WU event is HUGE.....we have about 400 to 425 every year....And have to stop at that number due to the size of the building we have. So yes we sell out and have a packed house every year. Martin my next comments ARE NOT directed to you but to a majority of people that feel the same way you do Many people have to remember these are organizations to help protect the sport we all love...... IF you go in hopes of I better win a gun your going for the wrong reasons. These events are FUNDRAISERS....... Since I am co-president our our local WU I know exactly what we do with our money each year.......Here are a few of the things we support or do. We help send 500 girls to a week long girls only camp where they learn all about the outdoors. We plant 30+ acres of food plots. Some for hunting purposes others for simple people to come out and view wildlife. Others are just for educational purpose....This is what a food plot will do with fertilizer and lime this is one that has nothing..... We support a huge hunt ever year for disabled hunters and their friends and family. We plant the food plots, we provide the food, we build the shooting houses for them to hunt out of. Anything those hunters need during that weekend we provide it! We also support 2 counties in their share the harvest program. So I am a BIG supporter of the WU and NWTF....maybe because I see the bigger picture then yeah I won something or darn it I spent all that money and didn't win nothing.....My committee guys donate a ton of their free time and the rewards of the letters we get from girls talking about shooting a gun for the first time or seeing that smile on a hunters face for taking a great deer are PRICELESS!!! Sounds like you have a good chapter. All of us are not so lucky. I used to go to our local chapter banquet, but it didnt take us long to figure out that if you didnt have deep pockets, and were not willing to spend a couple hundred bucks on raffle tickets, that you were not important or wanted. Our chapter is definitely geared for the big money people, and not very welcoming. I think the NWTF is a GREAT organization on the national and state levels, and I would recommend anyone to join. Most local chapters are probably great, I just havent had that experience.
colorado bob
The SCI is the biggest one here @ 500, then come RMEF @ 300, then DU and NWTF is the smallest. But I think we are the most family friendly, there were over 30 kids at this last banquet. We had 2 free turkey hunts, 1 auctioned & then the Jakes day pheasant hunt. SCI has African hunts, we take kids hunting------we try to make future hunters out of them. Talk about deep pockets-------Yep, I" a working stiff. It's no fun going to a banquet when the prints start @ $500. Most of the NWTF crowd is working class. Most of our prints went for $125 to $150. A working guy can afford that. Most guns went for retail. For $500, you can be a REAL bigger spender at my banquet. Just curious how my local banquet stacks up against the rest of them. I'll do it again next year, president that is, been on the board for @10 years. We had the local 4H club help us & then we also auctioned off 2 pies for them. When it was all said & done. I wrote them a check for $850------it the largest fund raiser they have had. CB Edited April 8, 2011 by colorado bob
Ravin R10 man
Alot of good comes from these I agree. Toddy....the only reason I didnt go is because I cant afford it this year.. I do know a few guys that did and they arent bashful about spending the $$ and still didnt win anything..and truth be told thats why alot of them go...then you got the guys that will put down 2 to 3K for tickets and seem to win multiple guns every time... many go to win..I made a comment that could be taken wrong, but from what I see at our banquets...i'd rather spend the money on a gun that I want rather than try to compete with those kind of guys..Im glad there are big spenders out there..im just not one of them.. we are going to our local WTU banquet..have not attended that one for about ten years now
