Laser Bore Sighter

Recommended Posts

Very honestly VH I feel all these things are expensive gimmicks. Unless you are planning on sighting in several guns they are a waste of hard earned money. Even at that you are only going to get the shot on paper [maybe ] and still have to " fine tune " the actual shot placement.

I sight in my shotgun the same as I do my rifles and handguns. I start at a relatively short range at a large target. Shoot at a bullseye in the center of the target. This I do with the aid of a good steady rest. My lead sled works well for this. After the first shot I place the crosshairs back onto the bullseye. Then with the gun held steady I adjust the crosshairs to the bullet hole or center of the shot pattern. Take a second shot and adjust again. Move the target further away and repeat the shots and adjustments until you are dead on. Normally within 3-5 shots I am sighted in.

That seems cheap enough. When I put my red dot on my slug gun I brought it to a local gun shop and they charged me $10 to bore sight it. It took them a total of about 3 minutes. (Seemed like a rip off to me) All it did was put me on the paper at about 30 yards and I still had to adjust it from there. Within about 8 or 10 shots I was zeroed in at 50 yards. Having it bore sighted might have save me about a box of slugs.

If you plan on using it a few times it might be worth buying one. If it will more than likely be a one time thing then taking to someone might be the way to go.

Good Ol' Lynn straight to the point .. lol

I will be using a bore sighter often, since I will be removing my scope for wing shooting. It just seems it would be easier and more cost effective to get my zero back.

I was also looking at this one also ...

OK Vh. Get that boresighter. Sight your gun in. Take the scope off and put it back on. Reset the boresighter. I will guarantee you will find the boresighter will be so close to zero you won't believe it. Did you really need the BS? You are going to shoot a couple test shots anyway, right?

Here is another try out. Bore sight your gun with any boresighter. Take the BS out. Reset the BS. Is it dead on again or off some? HUM, what happened here?

Notice I abbreviated the boresighter as BS!

i bought a speed bead. i'll leave it mounted on my benelli. if i want to wing shoot and the bead/dot is sighted in for something with a different POA, then i just turn the dot off and use my regular bead. i'm liking it. it's a fast handler too.

about the bore sighter... sometimes those things are finicky when changing stuff out.

Guess I should have PM'd you.

In the scope saddle thread I said I would send you a couple Remington chokes to try.

I did!

Lynn

Well Thank-You, that was necessary, but it's greatly appreciated ... :)

UPDATE:

Got the chokes in the mail this morning and just had to play with the 887 and the new chokes ...

The factory Remington Turkey choke just plain wouldn't throw a good pattern, but the Remington Ported Ventilator Choke seems to be the ticket ... Here's some visuals for ya ... :) Keep in mind the 30 yrd. target I pulled abit as you will notice ... DANG new trigger. BAH

This Ventilator choke is definatey far better than the Undetaker Choke I bought ....

THANKS Lynn .... :)

Not too bad!

I'd throw a couple more rd's through it and adjust the crosshairs a little.

The 870 I use favored the Undertaker over the Ventilator. Now I'm setting up an 1100 for the wife to use and bought an Undertaker for it today.

It appears to me the shot was rising between the 20 and 30 yard targets. Remember to think backwards of the up-down markings on the scope adjustment to adjust to the center of pattern density. Click the adjustment down a few [ maybe 6 clicks ] and try her again.

Good luck,

Lynn

Lynn, I pulled the 30 yrd. shot thats why it appears the shot is rising. I did put a couple more down range and was right on the target with a good pattern. I dind't show those target because I ran out of the turkey targets and just used plain rifle sight-in targets with a circle drawn on them.

I may tinker more with it if time permits. ;) I do however THANKS you again for the Chokes, it was definately a pleasent suprise ... :)

BTW: I forgot to include the price list. In as much as I saved you a $ 1000 in shotgun loads, I guess my asking price of $ 495 wouldn't be out of line. Of course you being a friend I could be negotible. I'll mull this over and get back to you.
