Leo
This morning was silent. Owl hooting and crow calling got no answer. Been the way of it every time I've got to go this season. A little discouraged, I set up in some open pines near a field edge I found some tracks in and just started some blind calling. Finally at 8:05am I spot a tom entering the sour grass 200 yards away. I call he answers! Breaks into strut. 15 minutes later I've got three jakes within 15 yards of me. One of the jakes is sporting a 7-8" beard. Almost a shooter but the one in the field dwarfs him. The jake gang sees the gobbler and goes out to harass him. They change their minds when they get closer and keep their distance! It takes me until 8:44am to finally get this bird into range. Almost 40 minutes of strutting and gobbling. It was awesome. I just knew a hen was gonna intercept him but God was kind to me this morning! Thank you Lord! 10 3/4" beard, 1 1/8" spurs, 22lbs a really fine bird! I'm ecstatic!

ruttinbuc
Way to go Leo! After all you have been through this spring it is only fitting you connect on a beautiful gobbler. Congratulations my friend. Nothing better than watching these birds for a length of time and then closing the deal! :cool2: Looks like that Rosewood striker fits that call nicely.... Leo
Nice Bird Leo. Congrats I like that Benelli. Extended mag and all looks like it would be fun to shoot. Actually it's a Browning Gold 3 1/2. The mag extension obviously isn't necessary for turkey hunting but it does do some other nice things for me. I'm a tall guy and it allows me to sling the gun much lower on my shoulder. Makes it much easier carry. The sling connection ties the magazine tube to the barrel. This makes for two points tying the barrel to the magazine tube. Having two connection points ensures the barrel is absolutely true to the receiver. The gun also balances better with it on there so it's easier to hold still. If I take the plug out and stuff the gun full of loads at the range the extra weight those loads add to the gun really reduces recoil. Nice bonus when patterning extra hard kicking turkey loads. Yep at first glance I looked at the forearm and the magcap. Looked like a benelli on my phone. but I see the gold trigger now on my computer. Wont knock you for shooting a Browning:D haha na I shoot some Brownings too. I know what your talking about with the weight, i went with wood stocks on mine for weight and it makes all the difference. I shoot Nirto's and they basicly pump my gun for me all i have to do is push my forearm foward just a little. But i dont feel any of it because of the stock weight and pad on my gun. I heard a guy Sunday morning before church that could have used that mag extension, boom, boom, boom, boom. AHhhh public land.
Flintlock1776
Congrats! Is that a Bushnell Holo Sight on you shotgun?
Leo
Congrats! Is that a Bushnell Holo Sight on you shotgun? No it's Trijicon Reflex II with the Amber Dot. I really like it, no batteries and built like a tank. The last five gobblers I've taken with it didn't like it though.
