LETMGROW
I'm sure many of us use equipment with hydraulic cylinders and hoses. Something you may not have thought about is the fluid laying in the cylinders in the off season. These tend to get moisture buildup within. When you hook the hoses to your tractors service you will pump this moisture right into your tractors hyd.system. This is because the fluid actually circulates with the cylinder extending and retracting. When I store my equipment for a long period of time, I take the fittings off the hoses and stroke the cylinder in and out to purge fluid from the system and collapse the cylinder to close up as much room as possible I do this when I buy a used piece of equipment [ like my cornplanter ] or if I borrow a piece from someone. I really don't know how well somebody maintains their equipment. I keep my filters changed regularly and know my hyd. fluid is clean and moisture free. I don't want to introduce someone's dirty fluid into my system Hydraulic pumps and valves are expensive. They are well worth taking a few minutes to protect them. Just for your info; I wrote more info and posted it in the vehicles and hunting transportation room.
