Hardwood_HD
I am still kind of speechless about the last couple day so bare with the looong post. I swore all fall and spring i wasnt going to turkey hunt this year because i didnt want to waste $24 on a tag like i did the last 5 years. Had plenty of vacation so i took today opening day off even tho i had no land to hunt. I was kinda just looking forward to having the day off to relax and not even hunt but i got bored yesterday evening so i went to my deer hunting land, which i have NEVER seen or heard a turkey on in the spring, and scouted. Walking back at 6pm i heard a gobble which shocked me and he gobbled till 8:30 when i left and i knew where he roosted which wasnt on her land but thought he may work with no hens around. So at 10 PM last night i bought a turkey tag and decided to go out in the rain, woke up this morning and the weather was perfect so i had no choice but to go. Got out way early and picked a spot set up my B-Mobile and 2 hen deeks, 6:10 was first gobble and about 6:30 he flew down and strutted in the top field across the fence so i yelped the box call twice and a hen yelped back 50yds from me in a tree, no idea she was even there. She flew down 30yds from my deeks as soon as the longbeard saw her fly into my field he flew from the top field, thru the woods, and landed in my field ran past the hen right up to my B-Mobile getting ready to flog him and i cracked him at 15yds at 6:35 am. I was not ready when they came in my gun was in my lap i cant believe it came together. This was my 2nd bird ever and first on a solo hunt, it felt so good to kill a bird out there where we had no idea they were there. He had 11.5" beard, 1 3/8 spurs. My fish scale weighed him at 25, taxidermist asked if i weighed him and i said i did at 23lbs cuz i didnt think my scale was accurate and he weighed him at 25 as well. I am sooo pumped i had to mount it because i know i will never kill another bird that big. Sorry for the long post heres a couple pics of the big boy!! Hardwood_HD
before anyone says anything about the tail feathers, he did not still have his jake feathers!! the taxidermist said it looked like he lost the 4 fighting or another way and they started growing back. Thats why the end 2 are full length then 4 short ones then the rest full length
Ohiobucks
Very nice Devin, that is a giant bird! I think you made the right decision to go out this morning. What is your taxi doing for you?

Hardwood_HD
Very nice Devin, that is a giant bird! I think you made the right decision to go out this morning. What is your taxi doing for you? he is going to do like a half strut on a pedistol with the leaves, moss, grass ect.. i asked him to put some fake morels in the scene as well, half strut because of the tail being damaged. it felt so good when he weighed him at 25, that was 2 different scales at 25 so he must be lol. not sure if i want him gobbling or not i havent decided that yet. ruttinbuc
Look at t he rope on that bad boy! Wow, great bird. I like the idea for the pedestal mount. I have one gobbling on the roost that is pretty cool. My thought at the time was a floor mount, but room became a consideration. He is out of the way up on the wall. Congrats, once again!
