Answer this question.

What have I done or will I do in the future to make this place we call 'home' a better place and get more people involved, posting more and have it a fun and enjoyable place.

Now, seriously, answer that question.

edit: changed it up a bit to hopefully stray away from any sort of negativity that folks might have thought I had.

Cool deal Mike. I like the place as well and have no intentions of talking or discussing the past with this thread. I am just curious how and what people are going to do in the future to make a conscious effort to livin this place back up and have good long chats where everyone is involved. That's all. I by no means meant anything negative by this thread.

What have I done to make it better......can't say I have. I post when I feel the need and don't post when the need isn't felt.

What will I do to make it better.......not sure I can do anything besides make my posts about my own adventures and comment on that of others. Whether or not folks like what I post....well that's up to them. I'm going g to be me.

I also wish more would participate here but sometimes lives are busy! When I ask questions or need advice I get them answered but a lot more people view without commenting. I like to see each other encourage and congratulate each other when they harvest an animal or get a good trail pic or whatever. There is another forum that I don't get on anymore because a lot of people like to bash each other if they don't agree with their opinion. You can post now and tonight be on page 6!! Here on Realtree you can go 6 days and still see the same post under the heading with no new posts or comments to that one. I like it here and think it's friendly and informative. I'm glad to see a crossbow thread now as well. So, where is everyone these days?

By the number of views they are here lurking about. Just not posting for whatever reason. I suspect some just don't have anything to contribute or don't care to recognize some who do.

I find it funny that when the question is asked "Why are the forums slow now?" No matter what time of the year it is, there's always a reason. Hunting season, fishing, yard work, summer time food plot preparation, etc etc etc. And like you mentioned, by the number of views...........makes me wonder, what is the real reason?

This place is what it is. Change always happens. Facebook is alot more popular with alot of people that used to visit here frequently.

Mike, it's funny that you are the one who always pointing out the number of views to threads, but the lack of responses. I see that alot in threads you start. Its not that big of a deal....really. I'm sure people look at threads and don't post in half of them. That doesn't mean that they dont have an opinion on the topic, or appreciate the message. Don't take it so personal when you get alot of views and not many replies.....

I am looking at the whole message board here, Tom, not just my threads. The excuse that Facebook is taking everyone away from Realtree is just that. An excuse. If people have time to click on a link while surfing in here they have time to acknowledge someone's success or join in the conversation. Nothing personal here. A lot of people have asked the same question. We were given the opportunity to give feedback on problems with the boards in hopes of making it better.

Is it?

What is the point of any of it if all people are going to do is sit in the shadows and keep opinions to themselves. Might as well turn the place into a library.

My theory there is this: If you've been here for more than say.....4 or 5 years, there's not much new in the way of posts. It's all cyclical. You tend to see subjects repeat, and it seems you repeat yourself over and over again, so you tend not to post. I know I'm guilty of that. And I agree with Tom, just because you read a post, it doesn't oblige you to comment, and I don't even think it's a breach of ethics or morals not to post. I read a lot of posts, but probably only respond to about 30% of them nowdays. Does that make me a bad person? Maybe so in some eyes, but it is what it is... :D

This thread is cyclical too. If you want to post and comment, post and comment, if you don't, don't. No harm, no foul IMHO.

Good to see you and Tommy are getting along. :D

No one is saying anyone is obliged to do anything. All Ben is asking is what needs to be done to get more people involved. All I am showing is the discrepancy in the numbers of those who actively participate. My reply was to Bear Claw who apparently see's it the same way. It is what it is. Don't blame for at least trying trying to answer his question.

We have our moments :D

Right. Well, it's been discussed more than a few times in the last year or so, and I think the plain and simple answer is that internet forums have probably seen their golden days pass them. With tons of ways to communicate with people now, forums just aren't what they used to be, and probably never will be. I guess that really bothers some people. That's obviously just my opinion, not supported by any empirical evidence. If you could bottle and sell the answer, I'd bet you could make some money at it. :D

I don't know Chris. There are quite a few discussion boards talking about everything from soup to nuts that are going pretty darn strong. This in despite of all the new tangled ways to communicate. There has been quite a few happenings here since I joined back when. There have been quite a few happenings in all the other sites I frequent also. Something has happened here whether anyone cares to admit it or not.

Ok, so back to the topic of the thread.

What can be done to make it "better"?

No no, I kinda like where this is going. It's opening some doors and questions that some would like some sort of answer to, even if its an opinionated answer. Carry on....

I also like it here. I haven't been a member for very long, but I like that any time someone dose post it is positive not negative and people can disagree without putting each other down.

I know that lots of times I will read threads and not reply, especially ones where a question is asked for advice. I've only been hunting for two years now and like any info I can get. Even if it's only someone's opinion it gives me stuff to think about. But I may not have anything to add.

I have also started some threads and have got feedback and was never insulted that someone read it and didn't reply, and to be honest never even look to see how many views it would get.

But just 'cause I'm happy, doesn't mean everyone is and if more people are than more people will contribute which will definitely increase my enjoyment as well. So I will try to add more from my experience and knowledge even though some times I think it is "too newbie", maybe others will not agree. I will not be offended if I'm told my posts are silly.

Just my opinion.

Paul

That's interesting Mike. I really can't say, as for forums, this is it for me. I enjoy Facebook now because I can keep up with a lot of old friends and past students, but I don't belong to Archery Talk or anything like that.

I'm the first to admit this place is different, and I've said so for the last year or so. As far as what happened....have to believe Kyle and Kevin (MCH) are correct in that RT is a little too politically correct. It's tough to speak your mind without fear of getting slammed, and Scott has charged the mods with not allowing the slamming. Personally, I love hijacking a thread and busting someone's chops every now and then. :D Little heated arguments/discussions are fine as long as they don't go too far.

I don't know, but like my buddy Tom said, change is inevitable, not much you can do about it.
