Im finally getting around to posting this. I had some difficulties figuring out some changes in the way to post photos.

Anyhoo, last weekend was opening weekend of our turkey season. Saturday I stayed out of the woods because the weather was horrible. Wind, rain, and cold. Not my idea of favorable turkey hunting conditions, so I sat out and waited for sunday and better weather.

Sunday morning was cool, clear, and calm. I had told my cousin I would film his hunt that morning, so we went and set up on some birds we had roosted. Long story short we got several jakes withing gun range that morning but no mature birds, so no turkey yet.

Sunday afternoon I was going to hunt myself, and my brother said he would film for me. We headed for a farm just down the road from my house. We got there at about 3:30pm and decided to use the cover of the woods, and sneak up the holler, up the hill, and peak out into a big hayfield to see if any birds were already out. We get back there, sneak up to the top of the hill, to the edge of the woods and look into the field. Sure enough there is already 2 gobblers strutting with several hens about 100 yards out in the field. I tell my brother to set under a cedar tree there on the edge of the field, and to get the camera ready to go. I decided to try and crawl out into the field a bit and get the decoys set up. I had the pretty boy decoy and a hen decoy. I belly crawl 10 yards out into the feild, set the decoys up, and start back towards the trees. Too bad the gobblers have already seen Pretty Boy and are headed my way! I back away from the decoys as much as possible and get my gun up, laying prone in the field. The two gobblers gobble, and come running right into the decoy and I shot the lead bird at about 4 steps at exactly 4:00 pm. We got everything on film. I absolutely love hunting this farm. I have taken a bird there every year since I started hunting it.

Not the prettiest or biggest bird, but Im not complaining. He had one missing and one broken tail feather, which we later confirmed with the camera footage, that they were like that before I shot him. 10 inch beard, 21 lbs, 7/8 inch spurs.

nice bird! i would love to see the footage of the hunt

....for sure, would be great if you could get the video up.

Congratulations on the Turkey.

I would like to get the video up, but the camera I have is an older Sony that uses a tape to record on. It does a pretty good job with picture quality, but I have to figure out how to get the footage on the computer first. I think they make a special software you can buy to do it. I would like to do some editing and then put it up on youtube.
