TBow
I have been quite surprised at the complacency of most canadian voters during this election bid. And I've been equally shocked at the numbers who've expressed their reluctance to go to the polls citing "it doesn't make any difference anyways" attitude. From my perspective, this is the most important federal election during the past 20 years or so. Here's why: 1. Conservative minority, and Harper will likely step down as he has been unable to hand his party a majority in 3 bids.....and that's fine with me. 2. Liberals show poorly, or even come in 3rd, and Ignatief is toast. Still O.K. with me, plus securing the long gun registry will be off the table. 3. NDP shows strong could: i) weaken the Bloc in Quebec ii) force a Conservative minority to have a social conscience iii) Show the blue and red that traditional political games and lies will be punished by the voters for all the BS they throw at us. 4) The Bloc is embarrassed by poor election results throwing them into turmoil. My fears are" a) Conservatives win a majority. OH lord no! 4 more years of Harper's strong handed tactics and manipulation of the system b) the inability of any party to win a majority might cause the Governor General to opt to allow a coalition to govern. Lor luv a duck NO! c) NDP become the governing party. Too many social programs and increased corporate taxes will hinder any economic recovery and throw Canada's status as a stable place to invest could be damaged as well as more businesses and jobs heading to other countries. It would be an economic nightmare. d) The Green Party gets 1 seat in the House. Jeese Louise I can't stand listening to them knowing my tax dollars are funding them. My hope is for another Conservative minority (that's allowed to stand as the government) with the NDP 3rd with only 1 seat behind the Liberals. That way the NDP will be more apt to deal with the blue machine rather than be the "push comes to shove" opposition. I would hope for a FREE vote in the House on the abolition of the Long Gun Registry allowing MPs to vote with their constituents' conscience in mind.......Hey a guy can dream....can't he? Will I be voting tomorrow? OH YA baby! TBow Edited May 2, 2011 by TBow
TBow
Well given that the Conservatives finally got their majority, Harper better come good with his claims of abolishing the Long Gun Registry or he'll loose a lot of votes in 4 years. And let's hope that the NDP can provide Quebec with enough positives to keep them from slipping even farther back into the arms of the sovereignists! i'm your huckleberry
We all know what will probably happen, is that Harper will bugger around until the 3rd year then put that bill though to get rid of the boondogle.
