Dawg
You guys in Colorado, how bad do you think the winter kill was/is this past winter? And just out of curiosity, I know it's still early and there's really no way to tell, do you think there will be an "early" winter in Colorado this year? In 09 there was a good bit of snow on the ground by the end of October. That made the hunting in 741 very good. This past season was just the opposite. Hardly any snow, milder temps and very little deer movement by the end of October.
silvertip_co
Apr 9 when I was turkey hunting I went in a gulch and there was what appreared to be 5 dead calves and nearby was what apperaed to be four dead mule deer. I'm not sure if it was winter kill or the rancher's dumping ground or the g.w. dumping ground. It was kinda odd. I was gonna take pics but didn't. Chose to m.m.o.b. On the other hand I have read nothing about winter kill this yr, whereas last year it was in the many online newpapers I read at least weekly. Altho the high country in some places has above record snowfall I dont think the lower areas where elk and mulies would move to for winter had it that bad. Last year they were taking donation$ of hay and feed, and this yr nothing. So in most areas it's prob ok.
colorado bob
Dawg------741 is just west of Durango. Durango is my hometown. Winter here was mild, warm temps & little snow. I don't think there is any winter kill in SW Colorado. The NW (Craig) maybe a different story. Hope this helps. Bob

Hopefully that will help improve the hunting for this years seasons. As I mentioned already, we were there the first week of November and the deer sightings weren't near what they were in 09. Lord willing, I'll be making the trip again this year.
colorado bob
It will take a couple years for them to bounce back. This year maybe a little better than last, the following( 2012) will be back. CB
