Jeramie
Maybe im getting old and cranky but MAN im sick of beggars! I had a guy come up to me at the gas pump today and ask for gas. He said he had just got off work at Zios Italian Grill and needed money or gas to get home/ back to work, etc. I wanted to clothes line him! However, he is working at least unlike so many others. I had a few dollars on a Walmart Gift card so I gave it to him. He was grateful for that and went back to his car and put it in. At this same Walmart the same people sit everyday holding cardboard signs wanting money. One in particular brings his wife and young kids, flips a cart on its side, and they sit on the cart for hours. There are a couple more that hold a sign that reads "Need $2 for the bus." Oddly enough they never catch the bus. There is also a woman in a motorized wheel chair that holds a sign up that reads, "Three kids at home to feed.. anything helps." That same chick was in the store the other day buying a pop and a bag of cheetos from beside the register!!!!!! A 2-liter is less than a 20oz these days not to mention those small bags of chips are expensive! I make a decent living and I dont buy them for myself. If you are that hard up go buy a pack of bologna and a loaf of bread or a case of Ramen Noodles! Grated they arent the best but do you know how many packs she could have gotten for that $3.50 she spent on a snack?! And then has the nerve to roll out there with a sign asking for money. I tell you what, im boiled and sick of this! I know people need a handout sometimes but if you have the time and ability to stand in one location all day begging you have the ability to greet at the door at the local walmart. Drag your lazy butt off the street and quit begging for the money I work for every day......... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. end of rant... Jeramie
I did get taken once (that I know of) and it was steamed. I had two younger girls come up to me wanting money for gas (they were about 19'ish). Being a dad and a guy I gave them $10. I watched as they hit up a few other guys at the pumps, crossed the drive, got into a car, and drove off.... I rarely give anyone money anymore. swohiodave
If you can stand and bed you could go and work for a temp agency. We have them around here by the highway exit every day. My mom used to work in downtown cincinnati and had a guy beg everyday. she would never give him money but would offer to buy him a sandwich at subway. One day she was walking with a friend and saw him and her friend told her "that guy sitting there begging has a car around the corner" and then told her how she has seen him at a bar she goes frequents on many occasions. shameless. ckrich
Ahhh, you can tell it's springtime in Tulsa! There seems to be more of them this year, or they have all moved in earlier than usual. I can't wait until July rolls around and my rotation at work moves me to a different area. Hey Jeramie, you might just think about getting a magnetic sign to slap on the door of your car that reads "Department of Human Services", then you wouldn't get bothered anymore! ultratec1
When i was 19yrs old me and 7 other friends went to Tijuana Mexico for a weekend vacation ( we were stationed at Vandenberg Air force base.) After a hard night of partying we started to walk to the border, as we walked by a store I saw a woman and a child about 7yrs old sitting against the wall. They never once begged for money or even said a word to me but for some reason I reached into my pocket and handed her a dollar. The little kids eyes widened real big and she thanked me over and over, then the little boy ran in the store. When he did this I waited to see what he was going to get from inside. All my buddies thought I was nuts for doing it in the first place. The little boy came running out with a sandwich and some candies. He offered some to his mom but she refused and made sure that he ate every bit of his "supper". It was then that I went inside the store and bought, chips, pop, sandwichs, and candy bars. It filled half a sack. It came to a whopping $4.87 for all that food. I paid for the food and walked out and handed the woman the sack of food, she started to cry and thank me, the little boy grabbed my leg and then I handed here $20 from my pocket. It was like I gave them the winning lottery ticket. The lady cried and the little boy drank half of a soda in 2 gulps. The funny thing was my buddies watched everything that happened in 10 min this took place. As I walked towards them one of my friends called me a choice word and walked over and handed them $10 more and another gave them $20. They were sitting on $50 american dollars, more then they probably would have had all year. Thats the one and only time I have given money away. But I will promise you this, if that kind of circumstance comes around again you can damn well be certain I will try to help again.
