Addct2hntng
just got back from getting my 7mm mag back from my old boss he glass bedded the action before first shot was dead on then it started to walk stock was pushing on the barrel well now theres good clearence and he shot it several rounds and it holds a great pattern again I never thought free floating the barrel would help so much learn something new everyday anyone else ever have this problem ? or did I just get a bad gun . or was it just maybe dropped or something at one time? AJ
Re: free floating barrel Your results are common. Usually as the barrel heats up, the stock can make it do wierd things. Get some clearance around that thing and it should stay put. I'll bet the group size shrunk too.

snapper
Re: free floating barrel Yep...my Ruger would shoot great for the first couple of shots...then it would start to shoot high and right once the barrel heated up. It would settle at about 3" high and 3" right. Once the barrel cooled...it would be shooting fine again. This for the most part was ok for a deer gun...not going to shoot enough rounds to heat the barrel up. However, wasn't good enough for me...I had the action bedded and floated the barrel. Now it shoots great! You could actually see where the barrel (on the lower left hand side) and inside the stock where it was hitting.
