VermontHunter
Well yesterday morning (5/7) turned out to be quite the eventfull morning. Around 5:30 am I let out out a few tree yelps with zero response . I knew there were birds there, so I sit and wait. It wasn't 30 mins. later and the woods just filled with thunderous gobbles ... I'm thinking YES !! I let out a few yelps to no avail ... these birds would respond to the calling but wouldn't commit ... it was as if they already had thier minds made up as to what was going to happen. This was the norm for the last few days ... Once the live hens started in I was nothing more but the usual noise in the woods .... But I held fast knowing what can happen in a instant while hunting. I reach for the thermos at about 8:00 am after letting out a few hard yelps and fill my cup and get set to take a drink and I spot two birds coming in FAST .. no time to move the video camera, I just drop my coffe and get the 887 ready for some action ... These two birds covered about 150yrds.before I could really react to what was happening. They were two young jakes, they actually looked to be twins. Being left handed I lined up on the left bird (25yrds away) and let the 887 bark, he rolls completly over and starts to run to my left ( his mistake, me being left handed ... ) I let 2 more rounds go and drop him in his tracks ... Man this was a tuff bird, I nailed him hard with the first round and he runs ,,, whats up with that .. lol He weighed in at 16lbs. 5" Beard with nubs for spurs ... NOT BAD considering how hard these birds are to get this season after all of the snow we had ... Here's a few pics and I'll post the edited video on the Photography Room in abit so you can have a laugh ..
ruttinbuc
Way to go, Luke! I guess you just never know when they are going to show up.
Rhino
Congrats Luke! WTG!!! Appears your 1st shot didn't break his neck or hit his brain. If it doesn't, they sure will get up and run. You were obviously prepared with the 2 finishing shots though and took care of business.

Yep, I've learned rather quickly to NEVER drop my weapon after the first shot on a Turkey. It's happened to me once, and it won't ever happen again .. And this Remington 887 cycles real smooth and quick, as can be seen in the video ...
