No, to be honest, I have not tried the Nikons out. The difference between a Nikon Monarch and Leupold VXIII is like $100. The peace of mind is worth that to me.

What peace of mind is that? My Nikon Pro-staff is just as reliable as my Leupold Vari.XII. The cheapest 3-9X40 Leupold I found is $299...the Nikon Pro-staff 3-9X40 sells at Wal-mart for $129. At that price, I could top two rifles with pro-staffs and buy a "real" good box of ammo and still have change for a morning coffee. wink.gif

Re: Scopes

Do you realize that some of the scopes and ammo you have talked about has been around MUCH longer than the ones you seem to trust. Rem. Core-Lokt's has been around much longer that alot of the more pricey ammo, why ??? because they are reliable. crazy.gif Hey, if you want to spend the extra $$, and it makes you feel better, go fit it, this is just our opinions.

Re: Scopes

Don't get all antsy about it fellas, I'm just saying I trust these items based on my personal experience. You do what makes you happy, you don't have to justify it to me or anyone else. I don't have any experience with Nikon, so why would I venture into the unknown when I am comfortable with Leupold, and the products under consideration are priced within $100? You can come up with your own reasons, but I think it prudent for me to stick with what I know. My post wasn't a personal attack, why so defensive?

If you like Core-Lokts, then shoot the heck out of them.

Be happy, go forth and make meat.

Your right and I agree with you. The point of these forums are to help fellow hunters out. I owned a Leupold way before a Nikon. Now that I own both...I have a hard time recommending a more expensive scope that isn't any better in quaility (My opinion). I have had experience with both, and both are great optics...but a $170 difference...to me is worth telling.

Like you said, use what you trust and if you got the $ to spend...you can't go wrong with a Leupold. I feel you owe it to yourself to pick up a Nikon and try it. If you can afford to buy Leupolds...you surely can afford to try another brand.

Not defensive...just adding my $.02 and try to help someone out. These type of posts would go much smoother if folks gave their opinion on experience and not heresay! wink.gif
